Central Locking Dead

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

Trying to help out my other half and fix her central locking, it died a long while ago and her Uncle was helping diagnose the fault but left her without any central locking.

I've used the search and found out a few diagnostics to try.

1. Replace fob batteries (are these 2032's? I have these laying around)

2. Check Fuse 31

3. I know the convenience ecu is under the dash on the drivers side above the clutch, is it essential this is coded by VAG com after replacement if necessary?

Appreciate any help, appreciate this has been covered loads likely but I've tried to help myself and use the search so please go easy!

PS already fix the rear wash wipe after reading a post on here, nice resource for these wee cars.

Ta!

Fabia central locking, the first thing that I would do is interrogate for any faults, in the absence of that you are guessing. Get a wiring diagram and check what you can, fuses, power to the control units and earths. I had one a while back, 3 deadlocked doors and central locking not working, after going through a lengthy diagnostic process the problem turned out to be all the locking units which I proved by plugging an old one into the passenger door and it worked, so don't rule out the unlikely.

If you are doing continuity checks on the wiring, you can access the plugs on the A and B posts.

If you replace like for like part number on the convenience ECU, assuming that you may go for a used one, coding isn't really essential for the unit to function, though you will need to adapt the remotes to it.

I had another one last week, remote locking not working and no communications with the convenience unit. Fitted a used convenience unit and got one remote programmed to it, turns out that the second remote was faulty as verified with VCDS and as a bonus the alarm doesn't keep going off on that car as well.

The batteries are 2032s.

Thanks Ford-fan, incidently I drive a Ford and love it but thought wiser of using that as my user name LOL

Since I last posted, I have replaced the key fob batteries and tried a couple of various resetting/pair procedures but the issue remains unchanged.

I am on the verge of picking up a new convenience ECU once I can pop out the old one and check the PN, don't want to do any coding just plug and play.

Speaking to my other half today about her car she remembered that her Uncle told her day she needed 2 keys and it would cost £80.

Are the key prone to packing in? I think this sounds like crap and fancy seeing if Timpsons have a box that can 'see' if the keys are transmitting a signal before going down that avenue.

One last question, when I open the car, the hazards flash until I turn the key in the ignition, is this the alarm going off and her Uncle has snipped the horn siren wiring to silence it?

Cheers

Yes, this is definitely the case. :) Been there, done that.
