MoT to stay yearly

I have to say I'm quite glad about this.

A lot of motorists never check even basic things like tyres, and I'm sure that a lot of people do absolutely no maintenance or checks on their car unless it's required for an MoT.

Having that safety check every two years would have left it wide open for even more dangerous cars to be on our roads.

I agree in part. I feel the MOT comes round far too quickly and can often be annoying to try and get the ay off work book it in etc.

A car should be roadworthy though and i think the MOT tests take this a bit far with emmissions etc

i think stricter rules regarding the essentials like brakes and tires should be implemented.

Agree with this! Most people only do maintainence work when something breaks or goes wrong! There's plenty of unroadworthy cars on our roads as it is!!!

+1 this is a good thing IMO, too many people do no maintenance on their car between MOT's as it is - just look at the number of cars driving around with blown bulbs.

You do realise that you can re- MOT your car up to a month before it expires don't you?

Anyone who cannot spare a couple of hour to get their MOT done is a prime example of why it should be done every year, if you can't find the time to MOT your car in the month before it expires then are you really likely to be maintaining it to keep it legal?

For many vehicles the only time they get a service is when it comes round to MOT time. Two years is a very long time to go between services, so as far as I am concerned this is the right decision. It isn't an imposition on motorists, it's basic road safety.

Extending the MOT scheme to include trailers of all kinds would be a good idea, too. There are a lot out there which are distinctly dodgy. We have a horse trailer which we keep in good condition, so I'd be quite happy to go along with it.
