Cam Belt & Water Pump Service Tomorrow

Featured Replies

As per the title, I've finally bitten the bullet and booked my Octi in for cambelt service tomorrow. It was last done at 57k and the car has now done 110K but its due on time frame as it was done over four years ago. I was going to leave it till later in the year but its been nagging me as I seem to have a little bit of noise from that side of the engine (rattley bearing noise) and I cant afford to take the chance of it going any time soon. I'm getting my local independent to carry out the work for me, they did quite a bit of work on my old Siggy and they have all ways looked after me. One of the owners has a BAM engined Seat Ibiza running about 300 bhp so they should know what they are doing with this engine. They've qouted me £265 inc VAT which seems pretty fair to me so fingers crossed for tomorrow.

Cheers

Howard

Would suggest getting them to do the aux belt and possibly the damper too?

Just phoned them and they said they'll be doing that as well :)

I preffer to do the cambelt and others by myself

Make sure they install a new water pump with steel/metal impeller. There are some ones that have plastic impeller and the impeller cracks

Good luck,

The rattling could be the tensioner/damper but as long as they're replacing that you should be ok.

It's great to have the peace of mind that it's all been done - and you've got a good price there too.

Its funny but they actually specified that they'd only fit the metal impeller pump even before I had time to say lol. As said they know they're stuff and I have been very happy with thier work in the past. And it will definitely be a wait off my mind once its done.

This is the damper, isnt part of a cambelt kit.

There was thread recently relating to this issue,if fitting a waterpump with metal impeller be aware that heat generated by it could possibly make it seize solid doing more damage to engine than one with plastic impeller. Pumps with plastic impeller i believe are designed to minimise damage to engine if things go wrong, hence them being o/e fitment.

Sorry for throwing a spanner in the works but maybe something to think about :-)
