mot failure

Featured Replies

Just had the mot done on my fabia and it failed misserably some things r just poor maintenance and i have no excuse for like windscreen wiper etc. however the headlight aim is too low and cant be adjusted cos the adjuster is broken (apparently) is there a common fault/fix with this or is it a trip to the breakers for a new headlight unit. the other thing it failed on was the front lower arm bushes. I dont have a press or a torch so i cant get the old ones out so its a garage job for that much i guess.... however he is quoting me 30 quid each for the powerflex poly ones that come in two halfs is this a fair price.... im sure i have seen or heard somone say they got them for 10 quid or there abouts

any advice is appreciated

thanks for ur time

yeah 30 is a lot. Doing mine next week when i get round to it. think it was 8 quid for 2 off ebay. If that price includes fitting then it is a very good deal!

Ebay a used headlight too will be half as much.

ive got a set of headlights that work perfect but the brackets are broke for mounting them but you could switch out the internals you welcome to colect or pay postage and you can have for free as for the bushes i have no clue :giggle:

Nah.

Notice all the screws that's been taken out around the headlight. Take those out and lift the bar slightly and the headlight will pop out.

ok three things

1) i used the method suggested above to remove the n/s headlight now the bonet wont close any ideas????

2) being the clumsy cack handed oaf i am i droped my torx bit and its landed down in the bumper somewhere (i can hear it rattle just cant get my mits in there to get it) do i have to take the wheel arch liners off to get the bumper off?

3) if i ever get my hands on the blind chimp that worked on this car b4 me sparks will fly on taking the headlight out i noticed one of the bolts was compleatly loose (rear bottom one) once the headlight was out the reason is apparent the whole bit of plastic that supports the headlight and that bolt fixes to is smashed to smithereans where the blind chimp has obviously just used force when ever the headlight came out b4.

i am getting more and more fed up with this car and wishing i had my rover back.

Is the thick rubber seal going across the front and sides of the engine bay slotted back in tidy?

ok next stupid question... is it possable to take the headlight apart to look at the adjusters as they r whats at fault???? or is it a sealed unit?

Then lens can be taken off with a bit of heat on the seals but not sure on the internals.

Never heard of the adjusters breaking before though.

Perhaps fitting the headlight back in tidy this time (as you said it's been played with before) might help. Then try adjusting yourself.

The adjuster might be turned to it's fullest to try and 'lift' or 'lower' the beam when the headlight might be fitted in wrong.

Just a thought because it happened to me only last week when I fitted new bulbs. Slammed the bonnet, hit the headlight then the beam was out. Fitted headlight tidy, then adjusted the beam.
