Windscreen!?

Featured Replies

I need some advice please...if you know anything about windscreens, because I don't, apart from the fact they are see through, lol.

I am moving back to South Africa and I want to take my vRS with me, because its awesome and paid for and cars there are silly expensive there!!!

Servicing it won't be a problem, parts should be fine as well because there are loads of VW's there.......BUT NO SKODAS!

So.......what happens if I need the windscreen replaced? I assume windscreens are pre-made and ready to go. I doubt any other VAG windscreen fits the vRS, so I would need someone to make a custom one for me when I need a replacement....

Yes/No?

Is that even possible? If so, I assume it will cost a bit more but thats fine, just want to make sure its possible and they can be made to whatever specs - just really confused about this one!

Thanks!!

Won't this happen with all the unique parts - you'll have to import as JDM car owners have to over here? Bumpers and panels are at risk the same as a windscreen. I think I've only had one replacement windscreen in 37 years driving.

Have you checked all the regulations - Googling reveals e.g. http://www.anglopacific.co.uk/documents/importing-cars-sa.pdf RETURNING RESIDENTS For returning residents, full duties and taxes will be applicable unless the persons concerned can satisfy the SA Customs that when they originally left South Africa they had no intention of ever returning. People leaving South Africa on temporary work contract, extended holidays, etc., are not allowed duty-free importation of a motor vehicle. In this case, the import will attract approximately 65% duty on the inflated value of the vehicle. Thereafter the requirements and rules are the same as for an immigrant above. - also http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=301723

65% duty... thats shocking
