Vauxhall Ampera

Featured Replies

Spotted a left hander recently.

Have to say it motored well and pulled well. Not sure on the rear light area which looks very American, looked quite nice in the flesh.

Lots of piano black plastic though so a bugger if you get it scratched.

I have only seen photos of it but i it does look nice.

Saw a white one the other day and have to admit it looked very nice, even SWMBO who cant tell one car from another and has usually no interest asked me what it was!

If it was the price of an Insignia it'd probably do quite well.

But who is going to pay £30k for a Vauxhall that doesn't really get better mpg than a 320d and probably needs the batery replaced at great expense every 3yr, never mind depreciation of Vx anyway.

Can't you apply to get a gov grant for it though?

The battery drives the car and the engine only comes on when the battery is low.

It is more like a generator and doesn't drive the car at all.

So if you stick within a reasonably range of home you'll hardly ever use any fuel at all.

I worked out that for my 84 miles per day (I can charge it up at work and home) I should never need to put any petrol in unless doing a weekend trip somwhere.

I like the idea. Electric car range, but petrol range if needed.

As you say, still overpriced though and like most electrical gadjets it'll soon be replaced by something with a better range meaning it'll drop value faster than a now-defunct SAAB!

Which is why I wouldn't get one.

However, for certain government contracts they are very handy for enviromental reasons.

Bonus points when tendering for low/zero emmission vehicles.

For the 26k after gov grant, it seems to be quite laden with goodies such a leather as standard, and Xenons.

Give it 12 months and I'm sure a new one would be sub 18k. It's the usual early adopter prices like.most tech. A prius was almost 50k at one point!
