Hi all, I'm a new member here. I, probably like more and more people these days, am considering cheaper options when my company car comes up for renewal, so naturally Skoda is one of those options. My company, after merging with another, has actually renegotiated a superb contract with the provider - whereas I am currently maxed out on an Audi A4 SE (I actually pay £10 per month extra), my next car could be a 520d, A6, E class etc. so they've basically upped the limit to around £32k. However, as good as BMW engines are, the BIK tax is still pretty high so I decided it was best to shop around. I can also get cash back each month this time around, not the case previously, so that's another good reason to move away from the "premium" badges.

I would consider a Superb or Yeti, but the wife is in enough shock as it is, and has chucked the Yeti right out of the window. I'm also looking at Hyundai i40. All I've done so far is sit in some cars, I can't get any long demos until the end of March anyway. All of these cars would give me almost the same money back as I would pay in BIK tax, each month.

My wife came with me to the Skoda garage. Very nice bunch of people there I think, the guy we spoke to certainly was. The cabin of the Superb was a nice place to be for sure. My wife immediately complained about the seats, all I noticed is that they were a little narrow compared with the A4, anyway she never has any patience with the seat adjustment and tbh she was probably still in shock that we went to Skoda in the first place!

I went to Hyundai on my own, and the i40's cabin, while a world away, was similarly comfortable. I was expecting some quality issues, but most of the plastics seemed good. A few of the knobs felt like they needed more weight. The seats seemed better.

AnywayI'm going to test them both. Head probably says Hyundai for some reason, although there's no getting away from the fact that it's a "wacky" over-designed car. In comparison, the Superb looks a lot more classy, the cabin a lot more normal.

So, as usual for me, I'm undecided and will probably spend the next 8 weeks agonising, squeezing every last drop of info from the various reviews, Youtube videos etc., before making the obvious choice and going for the Superb.

Cheers!

Hello Gwynt Cryf and welcome along, good luck in your search

Hi and welcome aboard.

Welcome and look on the bright side your getting a new car and people will let you out at junctions again in a Skoda!

Just need to keep her indoors happy.

So go round dealers and act like your going to buy a new car, think you should get few offers of extended test drives.

Thanks for the welcome. What's the deal with test drives and company cars, does anyone know? I know I can have 3 through the lease company, each 48 hours max otherwise you're liable for a month's BIK tax. So I can use those 3 for serious contenders, then maybe get some private test drives for more left-field possibilities (Prius?!). Not sure if that affects my insurance though, not being private. I guess if no one knows then no one is any the wiser and it's OK.

Most Skoda dealers just ask to see your licence and away you go for a few hours. :giggle:
