Exhaust System**

Featured Replies

Dear All,

I am looking at upgrading my exhaust system, and adding an induction kit at the same time.

Will this have much effect on the performance of the car and is it worth doing?

Milltek seems like the popular choice..

Induction system - don't bother. Save money and change paper element every 10k miles.

Don't think exhaust adds much, if anything, although Piper are claiming up to 17HP or so on theirs (IIRC). No idea if this is accurate or not, or how it compares with other systems out there.

Induction kit no

Exhaust will add some and obv add more if correctly mapped. Also with exhaust it will sound nicer IMO.

talk to unit 18 about the piper system, they developed a system for the vrs and it made 17bhp (i think) on the rollers on a standard car,

Sorry to hi jack the thread but I assume they did a before and after run? not just after? as its well known the vRS makes more bhp as standard than Skoda quote.

i seen the thread n yeah they did before and after. .

my exhaust made no difference to output. . had it rollered at same place before and after, needless to say i was wounded after spending.so much on a full custom system. . but it sounds amazing,

and i think its because my map needs tweeking coz it was mapped before exhaust and not after to take it into consideration.

If you get a milltek, it increases the bore of the exhaust by 0.25". Unsure if any other makes do this.

I did a full turbo back milltek (with a de-cat) and it's sweet.

From what I have read on here, neither of them will gain any significant amount of power (if any), to a standard car. Remapping afterwards will utilise the extra airflow & reduction of back pressure.

Induction Kit: you may get a bit of induction noise and the less restricted airflow may give you less black smoke.

Exhaust: more noise and I've read the turbo may spool up quicker (less lag) especially if you de-cat.

Don't bother with induction kit. Performance pipercross or green cotton panel filter will give you better air flow so should give a cleaner burn. Combine that with a pd160 intake for possible smoother throttle response/easier through the rev range.

Exhaust makes no different to power but looks and sounds better.

Makes no difference to power. The exhaust might help lower EGT but that's it, no power increase. The limiting factor is the turbo itself.

Decay might cause over boost which will need fixing in the map via the n75 map.

Ummm... makes no difference to maximum power maybe...

Turbo is a limiting factor to the maximum but it can be persuaded to react quicker, I'm sure.

Ultimately, you'd ditch the cat but you've then got to be exceedingly careful to prevent overspeed/overboost and knackering the turbo.

Even if you stay legal and fit a sportcat with a sports exhaust the reduction in back-pressure should require careful monitoring of boost.
