ASZ vs BLT engines

Featured Replies

Looking to buy a fabia vrs and have recently learnt that the older fabia's come with the ASZ pd130 engine and later ones come with a BLT pd130 engine.

anyone know the main differences ?

also what was the change over year ?

while im looking to buy a vrs and looking at pictures of cars i see some have different water coolant tank tops. apart from the obvious of looking at the engine code in person is this a way of telling if your looking at a asz or blt ?

Thanks, Matt

BLT had an exhaust gas cooler as part of the EGR setup, bolted to the intake manifold. Something to do with emissions. Aside from that, I believe the engines to be essentially identical.

PS - No need to post same topic three times. Once is enough!

sorry mate didnt mean to! just getting use to how the forum works.

thanks for the info!

That and the BLT would appear to produce a touch more power than the ASZ, But both produce more than the stated 128bhp/130PSemoticon-0148-yes.gif

Remember the later ones also come with an inadequate battery - potentially the change was at the same time.

Road fund varies several times during the vRS's life.

doesnt seem like there's too much difference then, apart from the battery which is neither here nor there.

what do u mean the road fund varies ? Road tax ?

Yeah, different years fall into different bands.

Pre 2004 cars had the longer gear box, different dashboards and rear door lock pins, really early ones had the Octavia vrs badge.

That is separate to the engine change though. There was lots of changes over the time of the fabia staggered, they didnt all happen at once either.

overall is there anything regarding the changes which is prefered or to watch out for when buying one ?

With the older one, u can remove the managment light when u remove the egr unlike the newer ones

How long have you got?

In respect of the engines I suspect not. But my later car appears to have engine problems (the exhaust light is coming on) at 32k miles which my 64k original didn't have.

Also the battery situation is unacceptable - and I've put in a higher grade battery in my current car, something I didn't have to replace on my earlier car...

That EGR setup also means that the turbo casings are different so the turbos are not interchangeable.

Me & my mate both have the same hybrid fitted to our cars, one is a asz one a blt?

Have you both got your EGR's?

My blt engine is terminal am I able to replace my blt block and head with an asz keeping my ecu? Egr blanked off so that's not an issue.

Yes, the block and head castings are the same, I assume you're just bolting on all your ancillaries from the BLT including manifold and turbo.

It is I've got a turbo of a Blt on my asz just have to blank egr off
