Octavia estate or passat estate please help

Featured Replies

Hi all, ive just had my 1.9tdi elegance estate writen off in a crash - totally gutted.

Im looking to buy a new motor asap but have a dilema... right ive found a 04 octy 1.9tdi L&K estate for sale for £3800 one owner from new with 98000 on clock. 110bhp

however my mate is selling an 04 passat estate highline in awesome condition with 30000 on the clock for around £5000 130bhp

Can anyone help, are passats as good as the octys or better, i like the passat but it is bigger not sure if it would be the same on fuel as octavia my last one was wicked mpg

Any advice would be ace thanks

i'd go for the passat. loving the interior and the detailing on the highline

a friend of mine owns one, now with over 200k miles on the clock, still going strong (minor break issues (master cylinder), but that's about it)

drive both and see what you like. having owned a couple passats id never by another 1. my 56 late was nice looking etc but they are pretty but problematic in my experience.

Passat is the same as the superb underneath, though at a guess the Passat will be heavier. Try asking on the superb forum for mpg, and other costs. Does the Passat have the same spec as the octy? Have you driven it to see if you like it? Its down to personal taste.

I have owned a MKI Octavia Elegance (110) hatchback which was also great on fuel, 60+ mpg was a regular average, I sold that and bought a 2004 Superb Comfort (PD130) fuel consumption dropped to an average of 50mpg but the car was nicer to drive.

Driven a few Passat's and they are not as nice as the Superb and about on par with the Octavia IMO.

The Passat with 30,000 miles on it is less then 4k per year, personally I would not buy a car that had such low mileage for it's age as it has sat around for most of it's life, probably rarely getting up to temperature?

My money would go on the L&K as it is a higher spec, has the more economical engine (which is far from slow), check the engine though as later L&K's had the PD130 also.
