ASR and ABS light on?

Featured Replies

morning all,

I have just driven home and about 35 mile into the trip the ASR and ABS lights have come on?? I have only used the brakes at the 7 tols about 3 mile into the trip.

I was doing 50 mph at the time on the A48 in the 50 zone and noticed them on. I will do a scan on it tomoz and see what codes there are.

For the past month Ive noticed the rear passengers brake squeek after they not been used for a while when driving. I hardly ever use the brakes but its like its pollishing up and a dry/nearly worn out pad sound? The car has had all discs and pads done by last owner a few month before I got it and they look ok.

The ABS is deff not working as I locked up on way back when I tried the brakes hard just to see, didnt take much to lock. they work ok tho?

mmm

last owner said something about water in the MC or slave??? cant remember now but said it was all sorted ages ago, could that have something to do with it?

The weather has been cold of late and its been raining tonight too.

cheers for any info

Billy

Probably one of the wheels sensors playing up.

My guess would be slushy, dirty snow/water getting gunk on the area where the sensors are. Had the same on an old Golf and have known a few people have it on Leons, but it can clear itself up.

update,

Did a scan and 2 faults, one was for the rear right speed sensor and the other was for the module failure?

I've saved the scan and wiped it and the module failure has not come back as yet but not scanned after drive to work. The rear right speed one came back straight away.

Billy

It will be that speed sensor. I bet the module fault was just an intermittent, perhaps triggered by the dodgy signal from the broken sensor as it was in its death throes. speed sensor knocks out ABS and ASR as both systems need all 4 sensors working, for them to work. :)

the codes:

2 Faults Found:

00287 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor; Rear Right (G44)

012 - Electrical Fault in Circuit

ok,

Right I got a week off next wed so I will be sorting this out.

I have thought I might as well put the Octavia setup on there too while I am doing it.

Is the rear brake pipes the same? I am lead to believe that all thats needed to do is trim the dust plates so the discs fit? is that all thats needed?

Do you use the same pipes on the rear and just bolt the carrier and calliper on over the 256 vented disc?

On the fronts then I that it that I just use the calliper and flexi pipe from the octy? are the dust plates that same or will they need messing with too?

any tools needed for this that I wouldnt have from ding the Octy ones?

anything else I should know?

cheers sorry its thrown together but I need to get ready for work now and go ASAP lol

ttfn cheers

Billy
