Amundsen+ SatNav DataBase

Featured Replies

When we picked up our Monte (Fabia) we were supplied a DVD CD'S of UK/Ireland and major roads in europe.

Depite that being months ago ive only recently got around to taking a look at it.

I loaded it into the headunit and got an error message.

Ive since been told that you need to have an SD Card in the slot then load the DVD CD and it copies to the SD card. I tried this with an SD card that already had Music on but i couldnt get it to work.

Do i need to have a formatted card in the headunit to do a clean install or does it sound like theres an issue with my DVD CD?

Also is it possible to stick Music back ono the card after its done?

I believe you can update the maps stored within the satnav itself... is this worth doing?

Thanks in advance.

***edit - it was actually a CD not DVD

The DVD should work on its own but you can copy it to a sd card. The sd card lets you use the radio at the same time as the sat nav. Yes you can put your music on the sd card

It should work straight from the dvd without no need to transfer to an SD card. You can transfer it to a card if you want to be able to play a cd. I used a SD card that already had music on it for mine and it worked with no problems. Make sure you have enough room on the card for the maps and don't remove the dvd until prompted by the unit. Try the obvious first like is the dvd scratched or damaged, does the unit play a cd with no problems? I can't help you with the last part of the query.

Well ive been into my Local dealer who were about as much use as Ann Franks' drum Kit.

The chap i usually deal with was tied up but there were plenty of other bodies milling about. I was pointed toward the 'resident sat-nav expert'... he didnt even take a look in my car, just told me to book it in.

He did go on to say (over and over again) that i should have had an SD card and reader (which i dont) supplied with the car but not a CD.

He says the Amundsen+ has maps built in (thanks for that genius) so the error im getting is because im trying to load something that it doesnt recognise or is current. I asked what happens if i want to update maps or the data gets corrupted.... blank!

Anyhow here are some pics of the Error message and the map version. I dont know if its the most recent map pack so id appreciate if someone could check for me please?

Is this guy talking twaddle or am i just a bit miffed that he was dismissive?

BTW they were hardly busy so thats no excuse.

I have the same Amundsen+ unit. The version on mine is V4 -western europe.

I got the car new Jan 2013

Can anyone confirm if there is a later map for the Amundsen+ after V4 ?

THere are a lot more codes on the screen if I press and hold "setup" for about 5 -10 secs.

That unit already has the maps on the built in hard drive so there's no need to put the CD in for the maps.

If there was an update available which I don't think there is, it would come on a CD which you would then load in and it would save and update the maps on the hard drive.

The maps on the CD will be exactly the same as the ones on the unit as the dealer supplies the car with the most up to date maps.

When I got my Tech I wasn't given a CD, there's been other threads on this and I don't think many other people did but I may be proved wrong on that one.

I didn't get a CD, DVD or SD card when I picked up mine (Monte Carlo Tech Black Edition Petrol Hatch at the end of October 2013) having looked at the information on the Unit I have found the following: -

Part Number:         5JA035192H

Software Version:  0407

System Hardware Version: H72

Navigation data part number: 3AA919866

Navigation data version: 0050

Navigation data medium: EUR_W_V4

Any pointers as to if these are the latest maps would be greatly appreciated as well as to the process for getting it updated if it isn't.

As far as I remember, maps for the RNS315 are no longer released on CDs - you need to get a special SD card that copies the latest content into the unit (and "marries" itself to your unit in the process).

I've seen people having some luck with RNS310 (normal Amundsen) but they also started releasing the V5 onwards updates only in the SD card format.

I am not sure how portable the CDs are, as the Amundsen and Amundsen+ are actually from different manufacturers, is there a chance they gave you a wrong one?

So when did V5 come out?

I can answer this one for you. Amundsen+ has map built into HDD as already mentioned. It does not use CD or DVD to update only SD card. You have to use SD from Skoda and once you have put it in the stereo for the first time it codes to that stereo alone.... No swapping it with other cars. So all the used ones on Ebay are useless or that's my experience anyway. New update was Nov 2013 for the new SD cards. And no you can update using the Skoda free updates site, this is for the MIB modules on Oct mk3 only. It's £190 for a new updated SD card. I had an Amundsen+ in the Blackline I got in January 2013 and the maps were fine I never had any problems with them. I tried to fit one from eBay to a fabia greenline but its not allowing an update and have no idea why!
