Remap and service requirments

Featured Replies

Hello people, I have owned my octy Vrs almost a year now and love the car to bits, I have often thought about a remap just to give it that little bit more. The question I have about remapping is what risks I may give myself of remapping a car with a 100.000 miles on the clock? The engine feels very fit, the gearbox is very smooth could I risk opening a big can of worms for myself if I got the remap? Also the car is due a service should I carry on using fully sythetic oil or should I now use part synthetic as the engine is becoming high mileage and I also want to change the gearbox oil but have no idea what oil to use. Many thanks in advance

Stay on full synth

At 100k expect the clutch to give up ( map depending) unless its been done recently.

At 100k expect the clutch to give up ( map depending) unless its been done recently.

The clutch feels fine but have no idea when it was done due to buying the car with no history at all, I guess it must of been done at some point not many cars can reach 100.000 miles on original clutch

Mine is still on original clutch not sure what mileage its on now but it was almost 140k when I sold it last March. The guy who bought it is on about remapping it in the spring too.

One of my local members remapped his in 2010 when it had 140k on the clock, still working fine two years later

mines just ticked 99k and needs a new clutch :'(

My golf gti has done 152,000 miles and I had mapped last month, so far so good

Yeah go for the Map. Best BHP for buck you will ever get. Transforms the car and if clutch gives up then so be it. Big grin guaranteed ! Talk to SHARK. To say I'm impressed with their map is an understatement !

Im on 65k might go for it but dont want things to give up

I.e

Turbo

Intercooler pipes

Clutch

Coming from a fabia vrs im sceptical as they just fall apart once mapped

Turbo and pipework will be fine. Just make sure it gets regular oil changes and don't shut it off straight after you've been ragging it. Clutch will be fine too as long as you don't give it a hard time day in day out

My Octy is getting some work done to it today, poly bushes in the bottom arms after its destroyed a second set of bushes in 10 months, full service and a couple of tyres then I think in a few weeks will go with you lot and bite the bullet and get a remap. I wish I could show you guys some pics but havent got a clue how to get them on here. Thanks for all the comments :-)
