VRS Engine bay heat

Featured Replies

I'm wondering that considering the heat that the 1.4TSi engine produces, why didn't VW engineers incorporate venting in the bonnet ?

I'm puzzled by this considering it's one of the first things designers do to 'hot' turbocharged cars that need some cooling, like the Fabia rally car.

Because nothing shouts chav more than a bonnet vent lol

If it needed it it would have one. Engines are very thermodynamically efficient nowadays, so clearly Skoda deemed that it doesn't need it. BTW the later Impreza rally cars had the enormous scoop on the bonnet for purely cosmetic reasons - it was blanked off.

Really ? Thanks emoticon-0143-smirk.gif

Your second part kind of answered the question though. Cheers

That iis totally irrelevant.

ROAD GOING Scoobies have a scoop on the bonbet in order to direct aironto their top mounted intercooler and on no model is it blanked.

RALLY bred scoobies have a front mount aintercooler hence the blanked off scoop. The scoop is there for brand image.

VAG would not have vented bonnets as its not in line with their 'grownup' image

Nothing stopping you putting some kind of scoop on the underside of the car that collects air and forces a bit of air up and right onto the engine.

No idea if it would work but it would avoid unsightly bonnet holes.

Does the vRS and normal fabia share the same bonnet? Pick one up for cheap off ebay etc, carbon wrap it and drill some scoopz!

Vents are placed depending on their function. If you want to get air into a car then they are placed in a high pressure i.e. front of the car for the radiator or at the base of the windscreen for ventilation. To get air out of the car stick the vents in a low pressure zone such as the top of the bonnet, roof or back of the car.

Technically it doesn't need bonnet vents. The only things in the engine bay requiring air flow are the radiator, AC condenser and the intercooler, they are all front mounted.

+1 comment made about impreza intakes, road going versions have top mounted intercoolers, same goes for the earlier supercharged cooper s minis. The later turbo cars have them still but they aren't functional, again its an image thing; signifies an s over a standard cooper.

OK guys, I was only asking the question based on the heat involved, I didn't say I was going to chav my ride emoticon-0136-giggle.gif

The easist, most cost effective fix is heatwrap. There are two very high temperature areas in the car that heat the engine bay. The turbo/manifold and the downpipe

When the hybrid goes on my car next week or the week after ill behaving the manifold wrapped. The downpipe will also be wrapped. Thus keeps temperatures out of the engine bay. It also means the turbo and cat get upto operating temps faster.

Wrap us about £1/metre. You canalso get turbo blankets

Swap out the bonnet for the S2000 bonnet, would look fantastic...

NNooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

where would it end

You cant put bonnet vents on a Skoda, you'll turn us into the new Saxo crews :S

I beg to differ. The vents found on the Fabia RS+ concept give the car a mean look far from chavtastic Saxos.

If I could I would install a bonnet like that in a heartbeat!

This is the PLUS model though. Has the vents in the bonnet emoticon-0105-wink.gif

Tell you what though, if this were an option, I'd be on the list right away. Looks awesome and how the car should have looked, including the splitter. emoticon-0148-yes.gif

You can see now that the 'sensible brigade' came along and said "no" emoticon-0143-smirk.gif
