Timing belt replacement on vRS with 147kw 2.0TSi, anyone done a how-to?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have owned my vRS for almost 4 years and approx 100,000kms so it's time to change the timing belt. Being a mechanic by trade I am reluctant to pay a dealer a small fortune to do the job, however searching the forum has failed to turn up a how-to thread / post. Has anyone done one that they care to share?

Thanks in advance

Cheers

Dave.

PS: So far my car has been trouble free.

Ive not seen any guides on the belt change. If you are a mechanic then its fairly straight forward, just awkward as the lower cover is one piece. Have a look on Autodata, Elsawin, Erwin etc for a guide.

They are pretty straight forward just a little tip would be to remove g/box mount as well then that way you can twist engine an g/box right up so you can get engine mount out and gives you much more space.

based on the title of ur topic......

- the new vRS TSI engine does NOT have a timing belt - its chain driven.

- the older vRS TFSI engine is belt driven.
