Gearbox problems

Featured Replies

PD100 with 5 speed box.

having a problem with 3rd and 4th downshifts. gearbox is fine and quiet on upshifts but wont select 4th on downshifts and now 3rd either.

only happens when rolling - all gears select fine when stationary

if I drop down to 2nd then 3rd and 4th are available again.

I have run through the cable adjustment with no change.

any ideas or is it time to get the box out and refurbished. it has done 140K so I suppose its not too bad but hoping there may be something silly I have missed

mine is getting re built atm due to a similar issue, get it into some one that knows these box's but be prepared for an expensive bill

yeah, thinking this will be a chunk of cash. looks like there is a problem with the syncros as double clutching gets around the problem.

looking around an exchange on a reconditioned box is arround the £600 mark where a second hand box is about £300 and take your chances.

have found a local specialist so will give them a call tomorrow and see what they want to refurb my box and how long I will be without the car.

out of interest, do you mind me asking how much you were quoted?

I noticed ur bristol so not too far away google thornford transmissions its near yeovil hes very good

I am using browns in thame and one of their guys is re building it for 150 plus parts, i am lucky as the labour of getting the box out was free as the clutch slave cylinder failed under warranty

its frustrating as I would be happy to strip the box myself but modern Haynes manuals have gone downhill in a big way.

there is literally nothing on the gearbox.

if I could find even an exploded diagram it would give me most of the info I need but cant even find that.

first budget price from local specialist is £350-£850 and thats box out of the car :o

a reconditioned exchange unit for £600 isnt looking so bad!

may yet end up contemplating a blind exploration once I get it out of the car cleaned and up on the bench....
