Tyre repair, mushroom or string?

Featured Replies

Looking to pick up a tyre repair kit for general use. I have seen butyl rubber string based kits in self adhesive or with a separate tube of adhesive, I have also seen Mushroom type repair kit with applicator gun. Anyone know much about either? Any preferences?

Niether, get it repaired by the experts

Just my opinion.

Do you mean the 'experts' you find at Kwikfit?

If you were thinking of using at roadside - forget it. At low temps the glue takes too long to dry.

The string type is easy to use. Just make sure you put loads of glue on the applicator. The one problem with a DIY kit, is that the glue (and to a lesser degree the string) goes off.

I would never repair myself, I'd always use a tyre centre to repair. They know what they're doing. Most will only charge £10 and have you on your way in 15-20mins.

I've got a rema tip top super sealastic, but as said you're better off getting it done properly or really a new tyre. These are a nightmare to get in the tyre too, I've done one before and it took ages. What ever you use it's going to vulcanise very quick.
