Head gasket?

Featured Replies

Fabia 1 8v.

Drinking water last weekend, finally gave up amongst some smoke. I thought it was the heater matrix (again!) as the carpets were soaked. Garage has said the head gasket is gone - allowed water and oil to mix and the resultant gunge blocked the matrix which then gave up the ghost. No water was seen anywhere around the engine during this episode.

Is this possible? They have used an additive designed for Rover K series engines that has got it back on the road for now. I want to sell, but want to get it right first - I know from previous experience with this car that what seems to be the problem isn't and there is something else to check first.

Are there any other possible culprits?

If it is the head gasket, is there anything that I need to be wary of - I've done a few heads in my time, but a long time ago!

Thanks

1 8v??????

I hope you mean the 1.4lt 8v MPI engine??????

It is a know problem but it can be "limped" with just a replacement thermostat/housing, coolant flush and refill.......there is a better head gasket "tremac".......

Just search under 1.4MPI........Tech1e did a post on this..... B)
