What are the must-have optional extras?

Featured Replies

We are pretty sure we're going to be moving to a new Octy 1.6TDi Elegance Estate. There are a couple of options I'd like to have namely:

Maxidot (I like this)

Sunset Glass (for keeping the sun off our baby)

Light assistant (for a bit more safety)

Anyone have any other recommendations for must-have options? I might think about puddle lights as well.

Thanks,

Iain

A spare wheel and jack to avoid the pointless can of foam.

I wouldn't bother with light assist, I actually think it hampers safety as people come to rely on it, so in rain and fog they forget to turn their lights on.

Xenon headlights is an option I'd tick, but its expensive and their advantages divide opinion on here.

The only other one is rear parking sensors but I assume that these are already standard on the Elegance?

My dealer never explained maxidot so I didn't order it :S

How much is the sunset glass? I got a professional tint done and I think it looks better than the sunset.

What no spare as standard on the Elegance anymore? Mine came with a full alloy spare. I have puddle lights as standard too.

The boot liner and rubber matts are a must.

Xenon's

Variable boot floor (what is the point of an estate that has no flat load area?)

Spare wheel

Bluetooth hands free

Auto lights (purely so other things can be enabled)

Get a 1.8 TSi petrol.... pulls like a diesel and no cambelt to worry about lol

Variable boot floor and parking sensors are standard on the Elegance. Spare wheel is a good idea though.

Xenon's would be nice but are rather expensive. The remote heating would also be nice but is also very expensive.

Don't have a clue about Octavia prices but it would be worth speccing one up with everything you like and comparing it to a Superb Elegance, where the following come as std:

Columbus sat nav c/w Bluetooth premium phone kit

Leather MFSW

Electric folding mirrors with puddle lights

Footwell lights

Electric leather seats with memory (front heated)

Bi-xenon's

Maxidot

Get a 1.8 TSi petrol.... pulls like a diesel and no cambelt to worry about lol

Beat me to it! Or a 2.0 TDi :D

Steve

Make sure it's got DSG

I wouldn't say there were any must have's but the nice to haves would be:

Xenons

Columbus (although pricey it is nice to be able to load all your music onto the hd and its neater than a Tom Tom)

Factory bluetooth

Raised boot floor (if it's an estate)

Multi function steering wheel (for use with Columbus and bt)

Maxi dot (for fiddling with the settings)

Im not a big fan of the 1.6tdi unit, if i had to have one then i would order the dsg gearbox, makes up somewhat for the lack of power, ive driven a couple at work and always glad to get back in my 2.0tdi.

I would go first for function so for me it would be xexons which are superb for night driving, curtain airbags to protect me from those who can't drive at all and rear sensors given I can't always even drive myself . . . (they cost about the same as the first mistake).

If it has to be diesel on the Elegance and you want to add extras I would be adding, Spare Wheel (raised boot floor is standard), Maxi Dot, Sunset or aftermarket tints, Tyre Pressure Monitor.

Alternatively if you would consider a petrol, take the step up and look at the L&K, already has Xenons, Maxi Dot and Light Assistant, plus ESP, Heated Electric Seats, Curtain Airbags to name just a few. May be worth some thought?

DSG, 3 spoke wheel, spare wheel, Maxidot, Bluetooth, towbar?

with full proper Skoda factory electrics for towbar, to avoid dealer "bodges"

And seriously consider the Superb

As I kinda regret not "going large"

Cheers

M

I wouldn't bother with light assist, I actually think it hampers safety as people come to rely on it, so in rain and fog they forget to turn their lights on.

And that is a bad thing?

I don't know about other people, but my light assist puts the lights on when it's foggy and when it's heavy rain - it doesn't just rely on the fact that it's "night".

So actually this is a safety feature as those people who "forget" to put their lights on in heavy fain and fog find the car has done it for you.

If the system is being a little over-sensitive (which it tends to be) then the lights might come on when you don't particularly need them - however not an issue as it never hurts to have lights on, rather to not have lights on when you should.

Light assist I think should be compulsory - expecially when I see ****s in heavy rain and fog without any lights on.

Don't forget you can now opt. to extend your warranty to 4 or 5 years upto 100,000miles.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm sticking with the 1.6TDi for fuel economy - I was going to go for the Greenline but decided the fuel economy didn't justify the extra expense. I've driven the Greenline and was pleasantly surprised at the 1.6TDi performance.

I would happily opt for a Superb but the Zero VAT and 0% finance don't cover the Superb Diesel Estates - the difference therefore is much too significant.

I'll definitely want Maxidot, spare wheel and sunset glass. I can't justify the cost of the Columbus satnav - I've got a Garmin with lifetime updates and I can plug the MP3 player into the 3.5" socket.

Hey ho. The wife will come home and say "What do we need that for?" and we'll end up with the basic car ! ;-)

Stand firm! I bet she's got the kitchen she wants. A dishwasher or a pair of marigolds? I reckon I know what she'd choose.

I'll bet that you can get very close to the Greenline's MPG with the standard 1.6TDi anyway, the stop/start stuff only really helps in town, out on the open road you'll rarely benefit.
