Annoying oil cap gunk

This is the first winter I have owned the RS, and one irritating thing I have encountered is the mustard-yellow muck that keeps gathering under the oil filler cap.

I have been into my dealer already and they said it was just condensation from short runs, and not getting warmed up enough. Nothing is showing up in the coolant tank.

I have cleaned out the cap and filler pipe about 4 times in the last 2 months and it is really bugging me. I have never had a car do this before, and my driving trips have not changed. Also the weather we have had here in Ireland has not actually been that cold the last couple of weeks, never dropping below freezing.

Any hints about what to do? SHould the moisture not be escaping normally? Is this just a badly positioned filler pipe neck which never gets warmed enough?

It's normal. Are you doing short Journeys?

My vRS always did this and it is normal. Just take it for a good drive (couple of hours or more) and it will go away.

Be warned though it will come back if you are just doing short journeys all the time.

With Carl and the dealer, thirded. This is quite normal if you do lots of trips where the engine doesn't or only just does get up to temperature.

If neither the sump level is rising or the coolant level dropping, there's nothing else it can be.

^ in that case there is nowt to worry about. In winter I find some of this coffee coloured gunk under than oil cap most times I open it. Unless you have tons of it I'd just forget about it.

Good excuse to take the car for an 'Italian tune up' I'd say ;)

Discovered this recently on my wifes car (6k) and the problem is exactly as described.

She has changed jobs in last three weeks and instead of a 12 mile journey to work, it is now 2 miles. At first I was pleased at the big saving in fuel cost, but now I have to give it a good blast every weekend to "dry" it out as well as keeping the DPF clean
