Anyone had a brake servo unit work loose ?

Featured Replies

Just wondering if anyone has had the brake master cylinder/servo unit work loose on a Mk2 Octavia ?

My PD140 went for its MOT today and failed for this.

The guy pointed it out and it certainly moves more than I would expect.

The MOT place suggested that it shouldn't work loose if its tightened up correctly, so that take me back 18 months to 2 years ago when I had the master cylinder replaced at a "main dealer".

I doubt I'll have much comeback with them as its done almost 60K since then, but nevertheless is a little worrying that it may have been like this for all those miles.

So my question really is how easy is it to rectify and tighten the unit up.

I visited a specialist first, who suggested that they needed the car for the full day to investigate, but I can't help but think there are a couple of bolts needing tightened up, even if access will be a pain.

Gave the car a quick check today to see if there was anything obvious to tighten up.

The master cylinder is fixed to the servo well enough, its the servo to bulkhead connection thats a bit suspect !

One correction to the original post is that the dealer replaced the brake servo, not the master cylinder.

Well, I couldn't tighten anything up, as two out of the three retaining nuts we missing and I can't recall hoovering any nuts up in the footwell !

Its in at a specialist in the morning, so we'll see what they come back with.....

Taken some photos, as I'll be contacting the dealer that carried out the original replacement......
