Help with DSG

Featured Replies

Hi

Ok, I have not used auto gearbox before thus I have some problems (if this is a problem ;),, )

1. There is a difference in the way a button from DSG gearbox moves out of gear or if you prefer stands out of gear (this button which should be pressed when one wants to move DSG between P, R, N, D, and S).

Thus, when it is at P, N and D the button stands out fully, while at R and S the button stands out partially (there is a significant and noticeable difference) is it ok?! I can not find this in manual and I ask because it does not feel correct but then I do not know what is correct or not!

2. My second question. I have to use significantly more power to move gearbox to position P then between rests of positions. Is this ok?

3. Twice in row I had moved my gearbox without pressing the button on it. The car was not moveing but I was surprised that it moves without pressing that button (I had my leg on break but still I have read that to move you have to push button on gear. So?!

If its like normal VW group auto boxes, you will be able to shift from 1,2 or to D without needing to release the lock button. However, moving from P or R will require the brake pedal to be pressed, and the button also to be pressed to allow correct gear lever movement.

Basically, they have built in protection for the gearbox so you cant slam it into P,R or D when going the opposite way or stationary.

Does that help?

well what about first question about DSG button and the way it stands out of gear, there should be a difference in the level or not, it may by silly question but it does not feel correct secondly I can not find any material about this in manual.

The reason that more effort is needed to move the selector into P than any other position with an auto box is that a mechanical (parking) lock is being engaged. Likewise physical effort is needed to disengage the lock. I think you are worrying unnecessarily about the protrusion of the button in R and S - does it really matter? The most important thing to remember with an automatic is to apply the foot brake before putting the car into gear. Relax and enjoy your new car! :)

well it does not matter , car works great, i am really amazed by this gearbox but then again it does not feel correct when I look at it and see the difference between this and other positions as something stops this thing at R and S, I was expecting that some of you who actual use that car with this gear can reassure me that everything is correct

look what i found at http://www.canadiandriver.com/articles/jk/031119.htm

neat feature of the control system allows the driver to step on the gas and brake at the same time. Audi calls it Launch Control and it allows F1-type starts. In Sport mode with both pedals pressed, the engine revs to 3200 rpm. Release the brake and the car launches in drag strip fashion.

Just the sort of thing you need in Tesco's

I've checked mine, and it's exactly the same. I think it must be related to the shifts you can make without pressing the button. For example I can move mine from R to D without pressing the button at all - which is normal for an automatic. Similarly I can move from D to N and back again without pressing the button - which I would expect. I do need to press the button to go from D to S or N to R, so that may be why the button looks different in these positions - just a thought.

Hope that helps
