North American Passat vs. Superb

Featured Replies

Hi!

Just noticed this: http://www.myturbodiesel.com/1000q/b7/2012-vw-passat-tdi-forum-buying-guide.htm

http://www.vw.com/en/models/passat/trims-specs.suffix.html/pageindex=1.html#/tab=55341d7011db9a6e06aa186de123d61a

Is it me or is the new American Passat specc'ed very similar to the Superb?

The NA Passat is about an inch longer, wider and taller than the Superb, but the philosophy seem very similar.

Even back seat legroom, trim level etc. seem very similar - much more than the new European Passat ;)

What do you think?

Well it's certainly uglier.

The Passat is the same, globally.

Well, compare it at vw.com and vw.co.uk and you'll see they are pretty much different cars...

My mistake, was thinking of something else

American's like their big cars, so it makes sense... and there's no Skoda out there.

Amazing...I didn't believe it could be so different so had to compare the figures. The NA Passat is bigger all round than the EU version. Width and height less than 1 inch different so could be just cosmetic, but the length is 3.9 inches longer 3.6 of those are in the wheelbase.

Perhaps it is built on a different platform. I really like the interior as well with all that wood. And they get Sirius satellite radio!

It's a cheaper build to suit the American market made in the new factory they have over there.
