Felicia MPi hunting when cold

Featured Replies

My 2000 Felicia MPi used to occasionally miss and stutter when it was cold but it has now started to do it more and more. It sounds like it is running far too rich and hunting but clears after 30 seconds or so.

My first thought was temperature sender but the car has had three different ones in the time and no change. I also tried starting it this morning with the temperature sender disconnecting and it sounded even richer and struggled to idle so fairly sure it's not the problem.

Also going to change the fuel filter this weekend and was thinking about disconnecting the battery for a night to reset the ECU but any other suggestions for what I can try ?

Try cleaning the throttle body.

Hi, I've had similar problems with mine. In my case from cold start it sometimes continues to run on fast idle (around 1100-1200 rpm) and the way I've got round it was to stop and re-start, returning the idle to normal. I've also had the hunting effect, see sawing between around 200 and 700 rpm. I cleaned up the air intake/throttle body and disconnected the ECU to realign. Didn't totally solve but a marked improvement. Good luck, Rob.

Throttle body now spotless, new fuel filter, new plugs, ECU reset and still problem exists !!!

Car does feel smoother to drive but still 'hunting' / misfiring on first cold start !!

Injectors next !

Just solved this problem on my car.

After taking the throttle body off and cleaning it properly including the edges/sides (thinnest bit) of the butterfly valve and fitting it with a new gasket (£1.80) from Skoda dealership, you then have to use VAG-COM to reset the ECU to the throttle bodies new position.

There are plenty of people on here that will do this for you.

Before I took the throttle body off I tried cleaning it without taking it off and then resetting with VAG-COM this made things worse and so only after taking it off and properly cleaning it and reset again did it fix the problem properly.

Hope this helps

Ahaaa! I'll give that a try then. I did try cleaning the TB on mine but didn't remove it and certainly didn't reset it afterwards using VAG-Com (I used to do that on the Octy but though the Felicia would be a bit more primitive)
