Be - Wiser Car insurance - BEWARE

Featured Replies

Nick - I'm teetering on the brink of being an OAP - so when asked for occupation ,I always say retired ( never unemployed) as some companies look at this as an excuse to decline /hoist up the premium . One friendly broker mentioned this when I checked to see if not working would affect my policy conditions . As I'm now getting Pension Credit ( and a civil service type pension) , I'm at liberty to do this .

You will probably find that they are obliged under the terms of the licience granted by Aviva to consider all groups that Aviva are targeting under the master policy. In this case, rumour has it that Aviva looked comparatively favourably on the unemployed. It may well be that a more sizeable proportion of the unemployed opt for instalment payment under these policies and then default a little way through the policy. I could understand why the brokers would want to weed out such types.

However, I don't see why I got the third degree, when I paid the full policy value up front by credit card.

Stay clear

Nick -just read through all the posts. Can't you get CSMA .or are they dearer .

Unfortunately, insurance companies rarely rule in favour of circumstances. This year I graduated and began a new career. Called my insurance to let them know and my policy went up by £50!

Somehow, being a student is less dangerous than being a surveyor. I now use my car less, and I'm pretty sure the average student is far more likely to drink drive, or have a car full of inspiration ("Go on, you can get past him...").

Same goes for modifications. Upgrade your brakes so you can stop quicker, it goes up because you're more likely tovbe driving faster. Upgrade your suspension so the car (in an ideal world) handles better, the premium goes up for the same reason.

I had to pad an extra £7 for getting bigger brakes....

I said eh your having a laugh its safer now... Surely you should be reimbursing me..

No sir, the car is now more stealable!! Lol

Yep... and if you put smaller brakes on, they'd charge more because it's not as safe.

You can't win!
