K&N Standard air filter box mod!!

Featured Replies

Its a lazy sunny Sunday afternoon so i thought id play with an idea id had for while housing my K&N cone induction kit inside my standard air filter box, to try and stop it sucking on hot air traped under the bonnet... i have a cold air feed going to it but its still will be sucking lots of hot air....

It was easier then i thought and took about 1hr to do.... just a bit of plastic cuttting here and bobs your uncle...

Result big drop in induction noise....not growling all the time now. .and as result you hear the turbo whistling and the growl of the zorst more so im not complaining...and still goes like stink

Smart....

Wouldn't it have been easier just to drop in a Green Filter replacement?

Once it's the standard air box is all closed up I guess the results would be the same.

Or....how about a Dynatwist CAI which is an enclosed filter is a metal cannister?

If you're interested I have my old one still, which you could have for a TBD sum. ;) I'm planning to be up at Jabba sometime this month or the next so I could being along.

those options are too easy ;)

not every thing has to be done 'off the shelf'

got any picks of the Dynatwist??

is it more forced induction then the K&N ??

and why has post been moved into motorway from octaiva as its octaivia specific (sp??) ??

Will see if I can find some pics....have some somewhere.

Dynatwist is like the K&N fit but enclosed in a cannister so no as suscpetible to the hot air from the engine bay......air fed is through some flexi pipe...can be routed where ever you want...had mine down by the lower grill....no worried about water ingress as you'd have to be upto to you waist..sitting down in car..... in water for that.

I moved to Octavia as I thought it was specific to Octy but on reflection I could move it back. ;)

Can someone explain the difference between an induction kit and a green air filter/ or similar air filter?

Im a new-ish 53 plate Octavia vRS owner (2 months).

What performance improvements are there from the both upgrades?

Does anyone have some models in mind for both upgrades?

An air filter change looks easier than induction upgrade - but would like a little more power

Im fairly good with my hands (oooooerrr missus!) but not really sure about cutting things! I take it by changing to induction I would invalidate the warranty?

:)

run the warrenty question past by your dealer....you will some diffrence but dont expect to go at mach 4 just be changing the air filter... there are a few diffrent way of doing it depending on how deep your pockets are... you could go for a pannel filter Green or K&N these go inside you standard box...making holes in the box also help... people find by doing this the Dump Vavle noise increases and some power gains to be had...the next middle of the road option is like what i have a cone filter some come with there own heat soak gaurd (i made mine as you can see) usally with cone filter the induction noise is inceased and again slight performance gains are achived....now if you pockets are very deep you coudl go for a forced induction kit starting at 150 + this usally come in a tube of some sort were a filter is contained in the tube so the air flow shoots up the tube to the engine flow is increased 10 fold...this kit will show you the highest performance gains... and again make a lovely noise

Forced induction...do you mean a CAI...Cold Air Intake?

I would also like to see a pic of the filter in the pipe.....never seen one.

I dont have one but i asume thats where the Filter is i may be wrong...

Joel

:D Ok...the whole idea of induction kits is, generally, to get more cold air in.

Several options:

Replacement filter, such as Green Filter, is freer flowing and perhaps gives a little bit more DV noise. Costs around
