Pembo's Octavia II FL vRS

Featured Replies

I guess this will be a handy little place to journal the car and mods over the time I have it.

2010 Octavia 2.0 TDi CR vRS

Candy white, standard spec.

This car replaced my lovely 2001 1.4 16v Fabia which I have handed over to my parents which I imagine will provide even more years of trouble free motoring.

Octavia was collected on the 23rd December 2011 and so far I have covered just over 2000 miles. Immediately I was impressed by the quietness when cruising at 70 against the Fabia, and the extra comfort from the newer seats and lumbar support really helped support my lower back (slipped disc ). The large mirrors are a welcome addition to the safety aspect when compared to the smaller ones that were on my Fabia.

So far have only noticed 3 DPF regens, and MPG is circa 48 per tank and upto 58 on a good trip brim to brim. Computer figures are coming in +-3%. Car has had only Shell FuelSave and Tesco Standard diesel so far, and while it is early days the Shell is coming in at 48.44 and Tesco at 45.97 although Im not convinced yet and will be running more tanks of either through depending on what is closest when I need to fill up.

Negatives:

Takes a while to warm up interior (hohum, wrap up warm - it'll be summer soon)

When the 4*c temp warning comes on, it takes a while to be able to get rid of it and move back to where you were. In contrast the Fabia would flash up and could immediately dismissed and would return to your previous readout.

No 12v in boot (would have been nice when I am flying the RC heli)

White is a bugger to keep clean

As I went for a fairly standard spec'd vRS my wishlist is as follows:

Parking sensors - quoted circa £200 fitted from local dealer, waiting to see how below turns out

Reversing camera - linky - ORDERED - may wait until out of warranty to fit and put on Fabia for now

Bluetooth kit - will fit a Parrot kit myself in the coming months - FITTED WORKAROUND SOLUTION (Aldi 12v bluetooth)

Mudguards - FITTED

Hatchbag - just to stop the mud etc getting all over the boot

RossTech VCDS - As there are a few goodies I'd like to turn on and play around with. Also handy to check diagnostics. Waiting till out of warranty.

Possible 'coding the grill

Rear bumper protection foil - BOUGHT & FITTED

Diadem indicators - BOUGHT & FITTED (only to the front so far)

Ring +120% Dipped bulbs - BOUGHT & FITTED

Winter tyres - Waiting till summer incase I can get them cheaper / have more funds to buy them

Better tyres all round

Honda S2000 antenna - FITTED

13/1/2012 - 1st Service. £135 from MSB Darlington

18/2/2012 - Handbrake creaking sorted by MSB. Still a bit stiff at the higher end of the pull but much improved on the first 3 or 4 clicks so Im happy. Also have had the seat belt buckle sorted, it was rubbing on the leather seat and annoying me. Bit of a pikey fix though so will tidy it up tomorrow. MSB were unable to locate the squeeky dash problem emanating from the front passenger vent area, so I may need to do a fix myself if / when it comes back.

Very nice, like the white a lot.

Why parrot bluetooth though, as you have a Bolero you can get the OEM phone kit retrofitted and it integrates perfectly and you'll have no additional hardware to locate inside the car as the Bolero controls it all. The audio quality is also much better, given that the phone call comes out of all 4 speakers.

Squeaky dash might be that little fixing point to the left of the glovebox, behind the little side cover. Nice colour btw.

To be honest, Im currently using a £15 Aldi kit that sits in the cig lighter at the moment which satisfies my need for handsfree without looking like a cyberman. Parrot / Bolero BT retrofit is something that I may consider way down the line but for now I'm happy with the Aldi workaround.

EDIT: Also, I don't have Maxidot so retrofitting would probably not be straight forward

Cheers! When I bought it I noticed many small black spots that didnt come out when washing the car - out came the clay bar and looks spotless now, really happy with how she looks when she is clean. Hopefully the mudguards will help cut down on some of the dirt, but I do enjoy washing the car every week :)

parrot is piece of pooh to fit, half hour at most.

Have done mine a long while ago.

My HTC desire currently does not support voice dialling through bluetooth, so the cheapest Parrot is out of the question as I'd rather pay a bit more for the phonebook sync / voice dial. I am updating my phone at the mo which may bring voice dialing though, and if so I will fit the cheap Parrot for a stealth installation :)

I can voice dial from either phone or parrot, it's full duplex, downloads phone book and plays music if I wanted it to.
