What version of bluetooth kit am I likely to have?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My car is a 2010 (May) Octavia Elegance with the bluetooth kit. I gather there are a few versions of the bluetooth kit out there and was wondering which kit/version is likely to be installed in my car.

Many Thanks

Chris

I would expect yours to be the GSM III with rSAp only, think it was a few months later when cras started getting the GSM III+ which had the handsfree profile as well.

Hello, did you buy this car from new ?

And if so, did you specifically get bluetooth added as an extra option ?

What does this mean, specifically the " which had the handsfree profile as well."

Thanks for the replies, I got it as an optional extra when I bought the car new.

I can now safely say a Samsung Gaxaxy S II works a treat. It works and connects fine except it refused to download the Phonebook from the phone. I have managed to 'trick' it into working by downloading the contacts from my old failthfull old school Nokia then just put the Sim card into the Samsung. Works a treat!

There are two variants of the GSM III bluetooth module. The earlier versions only supported the rSAP (remote sim access protocol) bluetooth profile which if you have a Nokia or a Blackberry means the phone will almost certainly connect fine. The car is the phone and uses the rSAP protocol to access the SIM in the phone. It disables the phone whilst it is connected to the bluetooth in the car. The main advantage is that you get better signal as the car is the phone. Samsung do a couple of Android phones that support rSAP, but iPhones and Android phones in general do not support rSAP

The newer versions of the bluetooth module support the handsfree protocol which just about every phone supports. In this case, the phone basically treats the bluetooth kit as a fancy headset, most phones will allow the phonebook to be sent to the car for control from the bolero/columbus/maxidot but the signal may not be as good as the phone is still the phone and is now surrounded by a metal cage..

Any idea whether this is being offered in Irish Model Octavias now?

Looking at upgrading to an RS but would like to have GSM III+ over the GSM II I have in my 2010 Elegance.
