Ball Joints Replaced Where To Set?

Featured Replies

Just replaced front ball joints while doing brake discs pads.

Totally forgot to mark where the old ones were.

Since setting in the middle postion of the slots, my steering wheel is now about 20 degs to the right, in the straight ahead position, so tracking has been upset.

So do I just get steering retracked? as other posts imply the slots dont really alter camber settings much.

Just take the car to a place that does full 4 wheel alignment and they will work their magic.

Dont drive to far with the car as it is, you could be shredding your front tyres and not know it.

Why do most of the posts I have read re: the bottom ball joint slots say adjustment is not needed or ineffective? I know from experience on an omega that tyres shred quickly after doing wishbones, but I only have near baldies on front of vrs to monitor the wear. The Omega deffo needed 4 wheel align but Golf forums and here imply octy doesn't so very confused now,

it will prob need aligned, but there is only adjustment for toe on an octy - best get it checked to be safe

Yep, the octy only strictly speaking has adjustable front toe and rear thrust angle. There is a tiny bit of movement in the front wishbones, but not enough to make a difference.

However!!! If you have the cast wishbones fitted to your car from a TT/LCR etc, then you have adjustable front camber too.

Even standard wishbones an creat marginal difference in toe after swaping ball-joints and it will effect alignment. You better doing it dispite general opinion.

made my steering miles out when i done same on my bora. was a bit ****ed as i not long spent out on hunter 4 wheel alignment. i simply loosened ball joint bolts, pulled wheel outwards and my steering was sorted again. not saying it will fix your car but it did mine. never wore tires out after 8 months of being like it either.

I swear by protyre's 4WA. My car always comes out spot-on from their tweaks.

Same reply ,as I gave to a bloke looking for a service on a Furby . Look at the distance to Wolverton , then ask Unit 18 for a quote, and advice .
