Hi,

Long time lurker here :)

The Wife and I bought a Black 1.4 Fabia about 18 months ago (which is about how long I have been lurking) and love it to bits.

No issues with the car to speak of, decent MPG, goes well for its engine size etc, engine management light is on and has been for about 12 months, have had it reset but it came back on. As far as I can tell there is nothing wrong with the car though.

Anyway the wife has a new job so we can't car share anymore and she wants the fabia !!!! Help ;)

So now we are after another car, either a seriously cheap sub 500 quid runabout or a 4-5k Octavia (less if we could get a decent one) the problem is people don't want to sell their Octy's round here until they have over 90k on them. I consider

Looks like you're just going to have to get an Octy then :D

Well I am going to check it out at lunchtime.

The 6600 miles is confirmed and

Welcome to Briskoda. Have a good look round the Octavia for any signs of wear and tear through not being used much - otherwise known as neglect - and that it has been serviced each year. My mother-in-law does minimal miles in her cars but the wear and tear is relatively horrendous! (She hasn't a clue how to drive or park, and has no mechanical sensibilities). But if all is well in your case you could end up with a very nice car. :)

Welcome!

Welcome :wavey:

It looks like it is a case of either wait for for something that really takes your fancy, OR bite the bullet and go for the 1.6

Would strongly recommend a test drive , at least 30 mins, and give it a good going over.( as you should with all 2nd hand car purchases)

It should be fine as long as it has been looked after and not neglected or thrashed.

Good hunting.

Well I had a gooooood look around the car and at the paperwork.

Took it out for a decent drive and stuck a deposit down on it.

There is very little evidence that anyone has ever sat in it, no tesco dents, no scratched paint around the door handles, all very nice :)

A wise buy then :)

90k on a well serviced/looked after car isn't a big issue these days. I'd consider 3k for a 90,000 mile Octy rather cheap. IMHO anyway.
