Acceleration Problem

Featured Replies

Hi, wonder if anyone else has encountered this problem and if so, any idea's where to start?

Got a mk1 Octy vrs, cruises lovely, but when i accelerate the car surges and holds back several times before max revs. It also makes a strange sort of fluttering chattery noise as it surges. It feels realy noticable and not good.

Had someone look at it who pointed out the Forge DV saying that that was the cause of the problems, so i ordered an original recirculation valve to replace it thinking this would solve all of my problems, only to find nothing has changed!

Any advice?

Gunked up egr valve or throttle body

Maybe knackered maf sensor

Maybe coilpacks?

Needs a scan really

Surging can be down to the remap (assuming its remapped) or N75 or all sorts of other things. A fault code scan would be handy before starting to replace things

I had this and it was a knackered n75 valve. Replaced it and the problem went away. Mine is mapped, not sure if yours is or not.

Also a long shot, traction control kicking in :) Highly unlikely though.

Turn it off and see what happens?

Thanks guys, had the recall done so got 4 nice shiny new coilpacks!

The guy that looked at it is an Audi technician so scanned with dealer software (reckons better than vagcom?) and no fault codes found.

I haven't got a clue whether it's been remapped and as it won't accelerate properly i can't even begin to wonder if it has?

Will maybe have a look at a N75 valve next.

Forgot to say, you can almost play a tune with the throttle pedal as there's a whistle that goes up and down depending how much you press the pedal!

Does it make the whistling when you rev it at idle or only under load? If its only under load then it sounds like something up with the turbo.

Yeah, the whistle only appears when driving even on gentle acceleration like pulling off of the drive!? This sounds expensive?

Its not the turbo then if it does it when you pull off the drive the turbos only working from about 1800revs

It might be fuel injectors, they can get gummed up over time, also check condition of fuel filter.

Is there anything stuck in the back of the exhaust like in the link?

SORRY!

Update. Had the car looked at again, no fault codes, no pipes split or leaking, guy used dealer software to test everything operating properly (maf, actuator, n249, etc), replaced the n75 valve and still surging and screeching. Long shot that it might be a dodgy remap, although not sure how you tell if it's been remapped or how you go about putting it back to standard? or the turbo's buggered, although there's no smoke when accelerating? Also stripped out the Forge DV and found a blue spring? Any thoughts guys?

Get a boost gauge fitted temporarily, if its making more than 10psi its likely to be remapped. The blue spring is for very high boost levels so i'd be a bit worried its been badly remapped with huge boost possibly
