Finally serviced the motor....

Featured Replies

Well did the deed myself on Saturday... was fairly straight forward ;) even managed my first mod!!! (drilled the wheel arch liner behind the intercooler) but I was just wondering how long long life oil actually lasts, my car has done approx 10K since its last dealer service and after looking at the oil that came out I wont be waiting for the service indicator to remind me to change it agin!!! now I do very little motorway mileage is this a factor?

Have to say she is running smoother with 4.5 litres of Castrol SLX longlie II running through her galleries:D

I also got some isopropyl alcohol to clean the MAF but the selection of Torx screws I have were either slightly too big or too small, anyone have the exact size so I can purchase? I managed to spray some in a left it to evaporate for approx 2 hours, the slight hesitation around 3K seems less harsh, but I also replaced the airfilter...

and finally is there a knack to removing the oil filter with out spilling some, fook me i could'nt spin the fecker fast enough with oil running down my arm

Cheers

ps: oh yeah, all in price, including purchase of new oil filter removal tool ( 3 pronged jobbie, best Ive ever used, beats a feckin chain!!1) 120 Euros and half a saturday (including bumper removal to get car on me oul ramps ;) ) alot cheaper than any stealers had quoted...

Glad to see you'd a busy Saturday :D, fair play to ya

Its not a torx screw that holds the MAF in, its a tamperproof 'ribe' fixing.

Not seen the actual screw, but Screwfix sell a set of tamper-proof bits, and one of them is bound to fit. Bought them as the number plate on the Scooby was fitted with them  and when I asked at our local B&Q they told me I'd have to drill them out as they didn't sell them!!!

Chris

I bought a set of those tamperproof bits before, the MAF screw seems to be between 2 sizes :D

Excellent....We now have a worthy mechanic amoung us (apart from Smithy of course)...

Did you manage to rest the ecu then? - or is the service light still on?

  • Author

;):D well the battery was disconnected for the service which should have reset the ECU memory, as for the service indicator the reset instructions are in the handbook, if I remember right turn ignition on and hold trip meter reset then while holding turn off ignition, and turn clock set switch left or right to reset, I also used some carb cleaner on the throttle body and did the realign, ignition on bonnet up wait for buzzing, might be palcebo but she feels a little smoother now ;) still wann give the M

Another thing i missed form not servicing is learning where everything is on your own car, nice to know
