It's On Back Order..poor Spares Availability?

Featured Replies

Seen on a number of recent posts that items 'are on back order' with warranty issues.

Is spares availability an issue generally with Skoda as my experience with other makes I never

had this problem.? Had it twice with my Yeti.

A little concerning if you are inconvenienced through lack of availability.

Is a curtesy car the norm if it is an 'off the road' issue?

Do they give any urgency/priority to 'vehicle off the road' orders.

I've had this problem with my Octavia - the aircon compressor failed in the height of summer and it took 3-4 months to get a replacement due to a nationwide VAG shortage. I guess this is a problem if you have part that is shared across the entire VAG range. However, if you vehicle is genuinely of the road (either physically or through safety) then Skoda will supply you with a courtesy vehicle in the interim.

Just like with the cars being built to order most companies now also just stock the basics with everything else "to order".

Not sure how Škoda works the Courtesy car thing when a car is in, but with my Audi you got one if the car was in the shop for more than three days. Which I then took when they offered it only to realise that evening that the darn thing did not have a parking permit for my street! Doh.....

If you ring the council they should advise you on how to handle this... ;)

Believe many companies these days operate a 'just in time' system for component procurement based on projected need; no point having parts collecting dust dents the profit margin.

As I understand it if your car needs a particular spare part that will keep it off the road, then that becomes a priority part requirement and goes to the top of the list. However if your car can otherwise run without it, for example the radio fails; inconvenient for the owner but the vehicle is still drivable, then it's a routine part requirement.
