Peg that the parcel shelve fits on snapped off

Featured Replies

We have had our Yeti - a 140 mid spec 4x4 for about 10 months now and 23,000 kms - pleased with the car - does all we need it for, (we live in rural France), have traveled back to the UK a few times, plus Tuscany and the Pyrenees.

We tend to use it most of the time with the rear seats removed.

Last week the peg in the boot that the parcel shelf fits on just snapped off - not sure how I can solve that as it is, (sorry was), moulded into the side panel - any ideas how I can fix this??? - not major but it rattles

Comments so far

1). The car would not start in an underground car park - turned the key, nothing, nada - panic - until I discovered that one of the battery terminals had come loose

2). French PDI and post sale service not great, (but that appears to be the norm in France).

3). Bought a spare wheel kit etc., - ruins what was a good boot.

4). Tow bar good

5). Roof bars - again, not bad

6). Fuel consumption - you have to be kind to it to achieve 45+ mpg

7). Mway cruising - it really prefers 70mph and certainly under 80mph

The paintwork is in good nick, alloys fine, tyre wear seems good, reasonably comfortable over long distances, easy to park, a nice size to drive around in, (not too big and not too small) ........ we like the "higher" driving position, (versus a normal car).......... cannot complain about the fuel consumption.

First gear low - get out of it asap - dose not like slow speeds in anything higher than 2nd gear, (maybe third)

Major dislike when driving would be the "blind spots" caused by the side pillars and front windscreen surrounds.

I'd certainly buy another - (and my wife agrees - which is something!!!)

Cheers

I just fixed the same parcel shelf issue on my wifes Polo.

All I did was drill a small hole in the centre of the pegs location n the shelf, and the same n the remaining snapped off peg , cut off a small bit of wire coat hanger, epoxied that into the hole, epoxied the face of the shelf and the broken peg, pushed them together and voila.

Can't see the repair and no rattles

Thanks - don't quite understand

I've got a hole in the side panel the size of the peg that has broken off - if I stick, say a dowel the size of the peg in that hole, there is no support for it and when the parcel shelf hooks onto the (new) peg it will just collapse

Must be a cheap and nasty design in he yeti then sorry.

On the polo the parcel shelf peg was solid plastic, all part of the mould to the shelf itself, when the wife snapped it off it was a simple case of drilling and gluing with the wire there for added support.

I just assumed the yeti would be a full moulded piece for the whole shelf, sorry.

You can fit an AA size battery into the plastic holder on the parcel shelf and slightly enlarge the hole in the side panel with a round file to fit the other end of the battery and you have a semi permanent fix.

until the battery leaks!

until the battery leaks!

i suppose you could get a bit of wooden dowel rod the same diameter as the peg, cut it to length and jam that in.....surely that's better than using a battery?

http://www.wickes.co.uk/hardwood-dowel/invt/128529/?source=123_74 (that kind of thing in the right diameter)

if you do use a battery, I suggest lithium...apparently they last a lot longer.

Bill,

Sorry about your woes chap.

You could try this...

Remove the side panel (I don't know how it fits but I suspect it is sprung clips and the odd screw)

If the broken lug is solid you could drill a hole into it and use a screw to hold it but my idea..

Use a piece of 2mm or 3mm thick metal plate, with a suitable hole drilled in the centre, behind the panel to act as a large washer.

This should give plenty of support and hopefully solve the problem.

There's a recent post here with diagrams of how the boot trims come off. ;)

Or perhaps just a large washer?

Or perhaps just a large washer?

I went for a something more substantial to lessen the risk of it breaking again but, yes, that would work.
