Cold air induction kits

Featured Replies

I have the mk1 vrs and been looking at getting a cold air induction kit just wondering wot people recommend any help would be great

They are a Marmite mod, If you want the noise then they are great as for performance unless your stage 2 there isnt a much point. I have a green panel filter and that is fine for what i have at the mo i like the noise of a CAI but until i go stage 2 and then start with a hybrid turbo im not going to bother.

Well I have just got full exhaust decat just after finding induction kit then going four stage two map and go hold of intercooler off my mate because his mate ran into the back off him

I've been looking at them too, there is loads on eBay. Quite cheap too, I'm not keen on the shiny cold air feed but I'd paint it crackle black anyway.

Any of the eBay ones will do, all you need is the pipe from the eBay kit then buy a good cone filter seperately (K&N or similar). As already said though they are more for the noise than any real performance gain, there are big turbo 400bhp+ 1.8T cars still using the standard airbox.

45 deg 3" ali pipe, 1 silicone reducer, 1 decent cone filter, a fat long bit of ducting to run cold air from the front of car to the filter, job done. No heat soak as the filter down the side of your battery, nice cold feed for when your driving and rain/puddle safe unlike these expensive carbon things that place the filter 4" off the floor.

I'd recommend you spend your money on something that actually works.

Cold air induction kits are a marketing con..... they are bought and installed on MK1 Octy vRS's by brainless people who have no understanding of how a forced induction engine works.

Instead stick with the OEM air box and filter which can supply enough clean air at ambient air temperature to support well over 250bhp.

Bill.

I've just won a k&n off ebay for £2.20 or £7.20 posted lol just needs a clean and its replacing the cheapo one that came with the induction pipe lol

Ive just won a piperx vis off ebay...

I may be stupid like you say but i dont care

My Neuspeed one is fine. I don't believe for a minute a company like them would do something that doesn't work.

Personally I don't care the noise it makes it worth it lol

^^^^ what he said.. Your only brainless if you buy one of these ripspeed specials that are covered in oil, spastic sorry, scope plastic round them that claim to be heat sheilds and have the filtering capability of a terrys chocolate orange! bolting it to you maf right next to your hot engine in an enclosed bay aint to clever either as it will loose you power.

yes the standard air box is good for 250 bhp. the oe air box is designed to be efficient, QUIET and economic. a decent cold air induction will not loose you power, you just gain throttle response and sound! i wonder why touring cars, rally cars, drift cars, use cold/ram air induction.. must be coz there stupid!

im brainless :hi: i bought a nice jabbasport induction kit  sounds great imo and ive always assumed jabbasport knows a thing or too

but then dont go by me :x i buy what i want and what i like, if it sounds good then woowho

if it goes better then great, if not....... sod it , i still like it ....... :p and if i dont and i just put it on ebay :D

I'd recommend you spend your money on something that actually works.

dont agree there sorry.

I have had my std box on and off a few times now and even tho it felt ok and seemed normal, it was a lot less responsive and high up it was choking itself.

The CAI is only pointless performance wise if you only use the std TIP into the turbo as they are very small. If you get the Neuspeed one or the silicone TIP then the CAI is good to have and get it mapped accordingly, my car doesnt like the std air box, maybe if it was modded with a silly looking pipe added to it but then that would look untidy to me.

Cheap ebay pipe, K&N filter and some black paint and silicone hoses for me looks nice and tidy, no chance of getting water in unless you drive thru a foot or more of water.

ignore the silly blue TB pipe, its now a black one to make it look as OEM as pos.

the sound for me is a bonus

i must say it really is a Marmite thing people have very strong opinions for and against them, i love the noise if it aids performance and allows the air going into the engine to be cooler than the airbox then happy days, i just wont be having one until i go stage 2 as a custom map will help it loads!Oh by the way billy where did you get the bonnet lifter from i really want one! Easy to fit?

lol, yea

I took them off tho as they are again imo crap. they push the bonnet up all the way and are on the limit of the hinge movement which to me is not good. for them to fit you also need to either slightly bend the screws or trim some of the socket on the strut. Not really a fan of them. I think really to fit them nicely the hinges need to be the what I call double action ones? like on the fabia.

As for the CAI, when I had the std TIP and a stage1 map yes it is not a good performance mod, just noise, I think really you loose torque as the car really did pull harder withthe std box on. but when you get the TIP on and custom/stage2 then the CAI is needed or the airbox mod. as it really doesnt seem to flow enough air from that little wing pipe.

A bit back I put the std box back on and I was really happy with it and thought I was getting better MPG, car drove better. then Mark I think said to put the CAI back on and OMG, you only notice the change when you swap again. so much more responsive and actually was better on MPG. All down to the car setup I think and what the driver wants. bit of sound then CAI quiate and stealthy then Box and pipe feed.

End of its your car and you do what you like, as said some like the filter in the bay, unless you put the Jabba shield or similar on then its really bad and loosing you lots of horses but people still do it.

You come on forums to give your oppinions and thoughts but I do think that what Bill said is a bit harsh, calling us all brainless when to me it is clearly a no brainer to have the CAI pipe for performance.

as Tesco say "every little helps" more air is good

Well, I'm brainless.......

CAI's have worked very well for me with my old K03s (stage2), IHI vf34 (stage3), GT3076 (stage4) and my current GTX3076R (stage4/5).

I've always been of the opinion that if it doesn't have a performance purpose I ain't fitting it. As said above don't get a cheap eBay special.

Custom fabricators can be quite dear, but it depends on what you require/intend to do...

Steve. :)

I fitted the neuspeed one this has the heat shield, noise much better now.

Bill I have always valued your techi opinion and they are always useful. But you must be having a weekend melt down.,

People are not brainless just because they fit a part of their choice that does not give super performance.

We all agree the CAI's don't do major performance gains.

Each to their own and folks have a choice, but we don't expect to be called brainless.come on buddy...

They do work better for my car than the std air box and i have had mine mapped several times to prove this. Billy finds this true for his car to.

These forums do not just have to have people spending there money on proven performance gain products it is also about their own personal choice. Enough said on that...

It was me Billy I have no Brain so I am Brainless then... :giggle:

Totally agree with yet there Bowders!

I've got a cai and its there just for the noise it makes, it was fitted before I brought the car and I wouldn't dream of removing it
