Is it me or is there usually a delay of about one second before washer fluid is squirted onto the windscreen? That means that if you wish to wash your dry, dirty windscreen then the wipers do one sweep before any water falls onto the screen and any dust and grit scratches the screen. I have this on my Fabia estate and also had the same thing on my VW Polo M reg. This will eventually mean a lovely arch of scratches on the screen which could be avoided. I try and only use my wipers once rain has fallen to try and lubricate the first sweep. I would have thought that those clever boffins at Skoda could have programmed the system so that the wipers do not move until washer fluid is actually on the screen. Is there any way of going into the setup to change this delay?

Even if the washers activated 1 second before the wiper sweep, the wipers would still be sweeping upwards from a dry windscreen bottom.

Of course it wouldn't be as 'dry', but to be honest you're not going to avoid it.

The blade edge will have dust & debris on its leading edge anyway, so with the greatest of respect, I feel you're being a little fussy.

If you're that concerned, best have some screen wipes in the car and wipe the windscreen and the blades when it's dry. Should have the neighbours curtains twitching anyway
