When to put summer tyres back on?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

When are you putting your summer tyres back on? Is it too soon and will it get colder again? :wait:

end of march ;)

we could have 2 feet of snow for 3 weeks yet! lol...

I put my winters on last September, they have seen snow for literally 5 minutes thanks to the stupidly mild winter we had. I am on the South coast so we saw none of the recent snow.

Mine will come off at the end of March or maybe a few weeks into April - weather permitting.

Mine will probably come off in a week or two: they went on in early November. We've had little snow here, but they've still been worth in for the cold mornings.

I took my Winters off yesterday

I wondered about doing it next weekend, being the beginning of March, I've also wondered about waiting until Easter to do it (beginning of April). I think my Service is due Mid March so might do it then (or get the garage to do it).

Thanks - that's what I was thinking. March ish. We got the snow a few weeks back but that's it. Handy for the cold too mind you. But this mild weather aint doing the tyres much good I wouldn't think.

I took mine off a few days ago & pulled my back doing it...

The reason being that I had a nasty experience during one of the warmer days with them in that I felt the car lose grip and it started to lose control on a bend (dry road & not speeding), I tried exactly the same manoeuvre with my normal tyres and nothing happened.

I have to say, on the warmer days the ride isn't so good and handling feels a bit stickey - but thankfully not had any major issues like you have described. Think I will give it a few more weeks then see.

Winters on October off end of March.

Phil.

Latest to put on beginning November, earliest off late March. Currently not experiencing any particular issues with the warmer weather, although I think the Hankook W310's on our Yeti (215/60 R16) fair a little better than the Bridgestone LM30's on the Fabia (195/55 R15).

Forecast this morning was saying we will return to sub zero over the weekend / start of next week so I'm not changing just yet. Last year we had snow in the first week of April

Today, but then I've got a flat which means I've to go to the garage anyway. + it's 14 degrees here and the winter tyres are bobbins in this (they're only cheapo Autogrip jobbies, they've been fab in ice and snow but useless above about 4 degrees).

Thinking I might put mine back on this weekend (Or one evening this week)..........

I nearly changed mine back over today after it hit 18° today!

30 miles away it had dropped to 8° :giggle:

The important thing to consider is the temperature when YOU drive the car, if you do a lot of early morning driving then they will be suitable to stop on longer. When it is constantly over 7° (again when YOU are driving) then it is time to change back to non winters.

I mainly drive in the morning to work and then home again late afternoon at the moment. Seems to be creeping above 7deg a fair bit now though

agreed, I drove to work at 7pm last night and it was 7 celcius, and home at 8am today, and it was 7.5, so still keeping them on for now, as I have noticed no drop off.... I will probably change them for the WSM meet at the end of the month though!

I took mine off on Sunday. Was going to take them off at the end of the month but after the warm weather on Saturday and a hairy moment under braking I though it was for the best.

Still winters for me, the conditions are right... 2 celcuis on the drive to work this morning!

My summers are back on since Sunday. Looks like the winters will last another season, but the wheels need a refurb.
