Yeti underbody

Featured Replies

I have now received my Yeti (and winter tyres and wheels!).

Could any of you who has owned a Yeti for some time let me know how the underbody - particularly the black suspension parts and plated bolts - stands up to salt on the winter roads, has anyone applied any protective coating - Waxoyl or similar?

Not noticed any problems yet. 15 months & 18,000 miles.

Nearly 40k miles, regularly blasted with mud, stones, sh@t, water and salt, and they appear fine

I gave exposed bolts etc a dab of Waxoyl when i first got her nearly 2 years ago. Probably wasn't necessary! No obvious sign of deterioration last time I glanced underneath October(ish) but I'll have a proper look again at the end of March if it's nice & warm.

One thing I have noticed is that if I give the main under-body plastic tray a thump with my fist, it sounds as though there's a lot of small stones trapped between it & the floorpan. I might investigate further in due course.

Does the Rough Road Package give better protection? I have ordered it; to help with driving through snow...

Thanks John H,

It seems very few of us are interested in what goes on under the floor of our cars!

Thanks TP, I had seen your link the other day. I was interested in other peoples experience of having the RRP... I looked at Llanigraham's Yeti this morning (he would have still been in bed!!) and saw the protective foils. I did not realise how large in area they were.

All Skoda OZ 4x4 models come with the RRP as standard and I have to say I am pleased that I have it.  The first reason is for barrelling down a dirt track I really didn't have to worry about tall grasses and weeds growing in the middle of the road getting permanently embedded into parts of the underbody you wouldn't want them.  Secondly, when I flew over a Tiger SNAKE on a gravel road I felt secure in the knowledge he couldn't find too many places to hang onto!!!

The place that I think needs watching is where the rear doors form part of the wheel arch, I was surprised how much muck had accumulated behind the lip the last time I cleaned the car.

You cheeky beggar!!

That'll cost you!!

I'm surprised you could see the foils under the layer of dirt.
