Tuning Box....a Con???????

Featured Replies

I won't post the name of the supplier just yet as I wanted to get some views.

I used to use an analogue tuning box on my car: quite a good one too: the Alpin Tuning module: there were three small screws in the underside of the unit where you could adjust the car to run nice and smooth.

Last year I noticed an article about RISC Digital Tuning Modules which implied that they were sooooo much better than the analogue system because they stored loads of preprogrammed data on a RISC chip and then accessed that as and when the correct parameters were met (a bit like a constantly rotating remap is the way one salesbod put it to me).

So being a bit niave about these things I bought one.......

Seemed okay, not noticeably different in a lot of ways to the old "analogue" module (bit less smokey perhaps).

One of the major selling points was that it actually had two different levels of programme on the chip.

The module is sent out in "low tune state" but by moving a jumper in the module you could access even more power.

Hmmmm

I've just been out to the car and decided to change the "jumper setting"

 :thumbdwn:

Once the box is opened there are NO jumper settings

There IS a little brass screw (which someone else had told me is what was inside and I didn't believe them!)

There is NO RISC chip :mad::mad::mad:

I am emailing the company concerned asking for a full refund...if it is not forthcoming I'll be contacting Trading Standards Officer for that area.

Any thoughts before I going crashing in through the front door?

Take the card from your pocket, you and I know what colour, read the contents out loud, and if no reply................................................"BANG"

25:17 - Pulp Fiction:

"The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you."

CAB and Trading standards are good places to start, as are Watchdog if you think the company is big enough to worry about publicity.....

I guess you could also approach the company and say you're not happy and see how they react, but probably best to keep it sweet rather than killing anyone (just yet) ;)

Bit of an old thread. But where is Stan? Anyone heard anymore?

What make was the box? Was it the www.tuningbox.com one or PSI Powebox (I think they should indeed have a RISC chip and a jumper setting, but there might be some older analog versions lying around)...

where is Rackheath anyway???

It's near Norwich.

How much was it? was it for the PD or Non-PD engine??
