Hi there, PLEASE HELP

Featured Replies

hi there thanks for taking the time to read this, i'm new on here thought i'd say hello. and was hoping someone can put me out of my misery.

I have just noticed this morning there is a white-ish gunk on my oil cap, but car seems to drive as normal. no over heating nothing. does this still mean my head gasket is on its way out?

Hello louey7 and welcome along

Could be the head gasket on it's way out but there's plenty of less worrying things it could be too. Keep an eye on your water levels as that's a good sign if it's head gasket failure plus you'll notice a drop in power and perhaps some white smoke from the exhaust.

Has the car been stood for a while? If so condensation builds up especially at this time of year when the engine gets hot and then is left in cold, nothing to worry about with that one.

Post your question in the relevant Octavia forum and you'll get more suggestions / help.

welcome to briskoda

Welcome, could be build up of condensation. Especially if the car is being used for short journeys in the cold. Again check for water usage and the white smoke.

All the best.

Welcome Louey, I've had many cars that did this & only once was it a head gasket. Nearly always condensation. If the oil & water seem uncontaminated & it runs ok, nothing untoward coming from the exhaust.? Try cleaning the filler cap & going for a long drive, then re check it with a cloth to protect your hand from the hot cap?

also forgot to say, i have only drove short journeys for the last 2 months and it has been cold, hope it's just condensation.
