Pressure washer go boom - new pressure washer vs gilmour gun?

Featured Replies

Alright chaps,

Took our el-cheapo black and decker pressure washer, which is less than a year old to SWMBO's thoroughly dirty car tonight. After a while it began to loose pressure and puff out thin clouds of stinky smoke. I anticipated this coming, as when i was washing the vRS last week it was sounding a bit knackered.

A while back SWMBO bought me an all singing and dancing, rather expensive, hose pipe kit which in the summer months was all i used to prewash & rinse the car off with. It was spot on at the time, but in the winter months i have had to rely the extra oomph of the pressure washer to help cut through the winter grime.

I've never tried snow foam pre-wash products, as the old black and decker wasnt lance compatible, i did use pressure washer solution a few times however was a bit underwhelmed by it tbh.

Anyways, i am now looking for some opinions on how to replace the now dead pressure washer, at the moment im thinking of either:

1) Stick with just using the hose pipe and maybe look at getting a gilmour gun and use it with snow foam during the winter months to shift the extra dirt

2) Pick up a new, better pressure washer - from what i understand Nilfisk are one of the better ones to go for as they have a metal rather than plastic pump?

I'm getting more and more into detailing etc. as a weekend hobby, and was wondering what others reviews were of the Gimour, and whether it would be equal to a pressure washer for tackling tougher dirt?

Cheers

I've been thinking about getting one of these by Bosch. Probably the 110 or the 110 plus, as the others seem more apt for industrial use and such.

Managed to get a refund in the end and bought a Nilfisk C110 for a couple of quid more than i paid originally for the Black and Decker.

The specifications on paper are identical however the Nilfisk is easily twice as good. It's much quieter when operating, the water pressure is vastly better than the B&D, the provided detergent bottle is about three times the size and as water flows through it at pressure (unlike the B&D) it actually thickens and lathers the cleaning product making it far more effective.

Another advantage of the Nilfisk is that you can get a dedicated foam lance for it, whereas the B&D wasn't compatible with them - roll on pay day!

Got a Nilfisk recently with patio cleaner chucked in off Amazon for around £60. Bargain.
