Lost key & Key cut to reg not working?

Featured Replies

Hi, just joined this forum because some scumbag has stolen my Fabia Elegance tdi 2002, and lost the keys & crashed it. The police had a key made for fingerprints but it doesnt work. Can i get a ignition barrel made to match the key or if i get 2nd hand keys made can they be programmed to match ecu? What are my cheapest options?

Thanks

Go to your local dealer with your V5, Photo I.D. & the police incident record, And explain what's happened, They should be able to sort a coded key for you.

If you've made a claim talk to your insurers about recovering the costs, Or have them sort it for you!

I hope they find the scummers that stole it!

I wouldn't have thought an Elegance model or any other version than the VRS would be desirable to thieves?

I assume it was an opportunist theft and they managed to get hold of the keys so decided to take it.

Does it not turn in the lock or does the car not start without it?

Dealers are about £200, trying to do it for less as i have to repair body too.

I had lent car to cousin who has been robbed of it and as such its not covered by insurance, 3 lads have been charges to court, i'm thinking maybe uninsured drivers fund claim maybe?

Key does not turn, i can get 2nd hand lock set for about £60 but its whether its programmable??

I have key that police made, maybe i can use the transponder from that in 2nd hand key and program that??

Your only options are to either get the key cut by the dealer as it needs to be cut to the reg or replace the locks including the barrell.

The transponder can be programmed through VCDS if you know our SKC number. If not then that will need to be retrieved first using VAG Tacho or similar.

The remote can be programmed in by yourself using the drivers door lock.

Phil

Remember the transponder can only be programmed to one dashpod!

Yes. Meant to say you would need a new transponder for the key that comes with the locks.

They are only a few quid on ebay!

Cheers Phil

OK i'm gonna get a lock set including the barrel & Keys!

Maybe 2nd hand & replace the transponder

So what is the VCDS & SKC and can i code the transponder myself?

Oh and struggling to get the ignition barrel out, two screws with no heads???

Something from RAC/AA ( can't remember which) ,when my daughter had problems some years ago ,was that a lot of locksmith firms have taken to doing car key work ,as they can do it a lot less than the stealers. Might be worth googling some locally.

I seem to remember dealers quoted £200 - so possibly a better deal . And at least you can tell insurance co that you got cheapest . Might be worth getting quote from locksmith and dealer and sending them to insurance company with a request for insurance to sort it out . After all that's what we pay them for .

Insurance not paying as i let cousin drive it when it was stolen, they have a clause in terms & conditions!!

I have used chizel to turn headless screws & remove ignition barrel!!
