buckled alloy on le octy by crash repair company

Featured Replies

got my pride and joy back from crash repair company yesterday. i was hit up the back fortunately tow bar took most of it so no need for any front end stuff. checked it out and couldnt find any scratches dents etc. drove to work last night and when braking at high speed (70mph at end of motorway ) felt brake vibration from drivers side front wheel. got to work and checked it out and found the alloy had a flat on it about 60mm long on outside rim. flat wasnt there when they collected the car. didnt think i needed to check for bent alloy wheels when collecting. wheels are a bit scuffed so wasnt too worried as there were no new scuffs on them but am currently changing them out to new alloys. rang repair shop and i am going there tomorrow to try and sort it out it was it was definately done by them but missed it on the sign back. steering wheel does not vibrate at speed but get serious brake judder. will keep you posted on progress and hope to get new alloy for it but will try for cash as i want new rims

Get ready for a fight especially if it was an insurers choice of repairer.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

got what i expected first off garage say they didnt do it . rang company dealing with claim and they washed their hands of it saying its not there problem it between me and the garage (another row there to come "duty of care" there sub contractor etc. about to ring insurer to see about them dont hold a lot of hope but worth a try.

It's between you and the repairer (if they admit to it) until they've had a chance to rectify the damage.

If they carry out a rectification and it's not to your satisfaction then it goes back to the insurer who will have to get an independent assessor to look at it and authorise another repair. He'll be an ex-repairer and is bound by a lot of regs that work in favour of the insurer (can you tell I've been there too?)

They should have carried out an inspection and marked up a sheet when they collected your car to indicate any exsting damage. It's not quite black and white they if they've missed it then they're liable but apart from that it's your word against theirs. I think you're supposed to sign off on this sheet.

Here's is my old ranty thread you might find something useful. I eventually got everything sorted with a local repairer who turned out to be top chaps and got everything right in the end.
