Which mods to start with?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have had my standard 03 VRS Estate about a month, and was contemplating doing a few mods to her. I would prefer to start with some easy things and progress from there, so what would you guys (sorry and maybe gals?) suggest to do to get things started?

Cheers

uprated brake pads/discs,shocks & springs,front mount intercooler,turbo back exhaust and remap....job done :)

Cool, thanks MR G.

Don't forget RARB and poly bushes all round

Start saving and expect to chuck about £3k at it

First off decent tyres, next a rarb, then poly bushes, coil overs, stage one, month or two after getting bored all the bits for stage 2 finally a few months after that you break the car for parts lol

Rear ARB and suspension turret brace and a remap are the best "bang for your buck" but as said go for tyres, brake and suspension mods before power mods. You will need an uprated intercooler with a remap, the standard ones not really up to it so while it will be quick when cold it will lose power when hot.

Im new to the vrs too

My first mods are a forge 007p and carbon intake...

Ill also be getting an fmic and a remap, then going to leave it :)

Don't mess with anything until you've improved the handling/braking.

The last thing you need is masses of power to get into/out of a corner/roundabout faster than the next gezza, just handling.

When that's mastered, you'll be ready to upgrade the power, if required.

At the end of the day, it's all going to cost bundles. Don't run before you can walk.

Just plonked some better tyres on it, remap, rear ARB, done.

Thanks for the excellent info all, lots of food for thought. Sounds like my bank account might be having a bit of a fit soon!!

First of all car should be running 100 percent so make sure it's serviced and check boost and breather pipes for leaks. The standard rubber hoses will probably be soft and perished if they are still original items. No need for uprated discs original equipment ones are fine. You could opt for some better pads. Front golf R32 anti roll bar and rear Neuspeed 28 mm bar will transform the handling. Drive about for a month or two then go for a stage 1 map. I have a shark map on mine which I'm very impressed with. Have Fun !
