Howto: Unsqueek the doors

Featured Replies

Hi!

I had an annoying rattle/squeek when going over road bumps or potholes. Turned out to be the door seals.

Read up on this in VW/etc. forums, and found that the VW grease is actually DUPONT KRYTOX GPL-205.

Bought some off ebay, five minutes work and all is well! Expensive stuff, but should last a very long time, and a very small amount actually used.

Hope this helps anyone :-)

Hi,

I had this problem with a Citroen C5 purchased new in 2006. After looking through forums the suggested remedy was hand cream rubbed into the seals.

I have to admit to getting a few comments when doing it from the neighbours but after a couple of applications all was well with no squeaks and smooth hands! It was also a cheap solution and it is still in the garage just in case.

Regards,

Kevin.

Apparently, the Dupont stuff is inert, and won't affect the rubber (or any plasticizer etc. within) in any adverse way..

Won't a standard Silicon grease do the job?

Maybe, but if VAG is buying this for this application, they probably have a reason...

I just went back to some of the info I read, and there is a worry that silicone grease is acidic...

Ebay has the krytox in very small quantities- 5ml should do it, in my opinion.

Krytox is the stuff you need. I used to have a VW Eos, and i used Krytox to lube all the rubber seals around the roof mechanism. it stopped them squeaking and keeps them supple to avoid pinching when the roof closes, which could lead to leaks. As mentioned earlier, it is totally inert, unlike silicone, vaseline etc etc etc which will corrode the rubber over time................

Hi,

I had a rattle (after about a month from purchase) that I thought was coming from the seat belt tensioner in the drivers side B pillar. The rattle would develop going over some rough road or even on takeoff if it was warm outside.

I lubed the door lock mechanism with the GPL-205 and the rattle was gone.

It started to develop on the passenger side also so I did that one as well. Apparently some cars miss this lube on the production line, mine definitely did not have grease in the lock mechanism of both front doors.

PS.

Make sure you get a syringe applicator for this grease as you require very little to do the job and it costs heaps...
