Advice please on best tyre size for 17" Spiders

Featured Replies

As title states please,

I am going back to 17" spiders from my 18" RS4 wheels

As car is low and chassis stiff, what do you guys and gals think is best tyre size. Something like 225 45 17 or 205 40 17, or even 215 width?.

a 45 series profile may help with torque steer over a 40 series??

cheers

Mark

225/45/17 michelin pilots part worn ;-) lol

that would be my choice

but in reality there isnt much difference between the lot

i always pref 225 45 17 as well, over the 205s, imo ran better, but some prefer 205s.

225s more available and better price too iirc

:hi: ive got a thread somewhere mate, it has a vote in it

i'll try hunt it down and link it

Cheers for that.

hmm. seem the 205 gets better vote but in a 50 series profile. No one thought of a 45 or even 40 profile....

a 50 profile does seem a little large??

I would go for the 205 50 17 mate, but thats for ride, drive and eco. I wouldnt go for a 40 profile. will look crap. 40 are for the fabia. have a look at Lex_vRS iirc he has a silver one with fabia tyres. look too small.

get 225 45 17 if anything. seem a good compromise and do give good grip for accel and cornering.

Getting the rims cleaned up now mate will pm pics.

Cheers Billy.

Interesting that the tyre / wheel rim size chart i used today seems to suggest a 225 tyre should not be placed on a 7j rim but at least a 7.5j to 9j rim

Found 225 to increase fuel consumption added to the fact I also brought kumhos which wore out in months it actually cost me a lot more than what I saved lol. The general grip and handling wasn't any different to 205 though the ride was a lot harsher.

I also found Kumhos wear quick...

Looking at neutons at the mo, saab boys seem to rave over them with good milage and grip

Raf, who supplies Neuton's i can only find them on ebay?

Lovetyres http://lovetyres.com/tyre/NT8000/205-50-17 138 for a pair delivered. Neo brothers the Saab specialist are a dealer aswell but I don't think they are as cheap

If I go for a pair of 452s they come to 150 delivered, really tempted with the neutons

205/50/17 are oh so comfortable. But it's squeal city when pushed hard. You sacrifice ride quality with 225/45/17 but car feels more sure footed and gives better feedback.

you forgot to add uses more go go juice too lol.

When I had the Falkens on the front they never squealed or felt any less sure footed than the 225s

Lol Raf you are obviously not driving fast enough ! Fair comment though it was probably my driving style. That and trying to get clearways right. It's a tough corner !

Plus 1 for Neutons. Had the NT5000's fitted to my 19's on my signum and they are really a great tyre for the money - I couldn't fault them.

From the little info I can find it seems the neuton nt5000 is a summer tyre and the nt8000 is an all season one but supplies of the nt5000 are really low and it seems they may have been discontinued, finding it hard to find proper info about neuton tyres on my phone. Most of the comments I have found are very positive

i agree with group1rs, 225s lend themselves better to spirited driving.

how can you even tell the difference with fuel economy...anyway..if fuel economy is an issue, buy a diesel surely:>

I have lol.

They are a fair bit different for me. even the 18" LCR rims get slightly better mpg than the 225 45 17.

Mark,

Personally I wouldnt get Falkens again! they groove steer and are rather noisy. I have had Falken 912 I think they are on the GF Hyundai Coupe 215 45 17. and I had 452 225 40 18. Wont be getting them again. The Mayrun MR800 I had on the second set of R32 reps I had while the TD rim went off to Rimstock were nicer.

err 205/45/17? Don't you mean 205/50/17?

225 45 17.

205 45 17 will be even more out on the speedo. I know people say its not a lot but the speedo over reads anyway so why make it worse?

youll also make the ride worse too.

mmmm

lol

4 tyres sittng n my garage :sun:
