if is 205 it must be 16 inch ,otherwise I can't see the point, maybe the look

Edited by IulianE

nope its what they fitted to them out the factory 205/50/r17

Are any benefits of 205/50/17 over the very common and alot cheaper 205/55/16?

economy and the fact a 17 is for 17 inch wheels and the 16 for 16 inch, also ride comfort on the 17 is very good

Who put 215 45 17?

that would look daft ride the worse of the lot and seriously bugger the speedo lol.

Had 205/50's originally on my car, got 225/45's on it now (as was my previous Octy) much more planted on the road, no difference in economy/noise etc.

I've always found the Octy to tramline anyway, so there was no difference going up in size.

the only reason people go to 225 is there cheaper!wonder how many people have told their insurance people theyve changed tyre spec?:/

I prefer the handling on the 205s, it's more nimble compared to the 225s. It feels more planted on the 225s, but as a result, I can't make it dance quite as well in the corners - I like to bring the rear out a bit in tighter corners on this car, it helps me get the car positioned for the exit.

I also told my insurer that I'd gone from 205s to 225s, just to be safe.

Just bought some octy spyders with no tyres for the fab.

So what tyres shall I put on them?

I'm confused.com after reading this thread!!

You must be "special" lol

You're right about tramlining, but mine did get less on 205's, and skinny is right about it being more nimble on the 205's

205 40 17 I think is the right size for a fabia.

1.55% difference to a standard Octavia vRS tyre so no it won't bugger your speedo, at An indicated 70mph you would be travelling 68.92mph.

I think they look buch better, little extra width but 225 looks to flabby on what is a pretty narrow rim.

yeah the furbies wear 205/40/17s on their spiders emoticon-0148-yes.gif

I thought that as i put a set of 225's on the rear of my octy just to see what they looked like on standard spiders

Going back to when the Mk1 was in production, there was I believe a period of time when they shipped with 225's from the factory.

When I had my MK1 vRS, it was run on 225/45 because they are cheaper due to them being more common.

I have 245/45 x18 on the A8, and just had to replace them, £117 a corner for Kumho's all in.

Don't think it ever came with 225 on? There been report that 225 can rub on the inner wheel arch at full lock anyone else heard this? :wonder:

thats a lot when you can get 20k from the tyres. thats an extra what 300ish mile youve put on your car and wear on the parts? then not to mention the other things like eco and such which is a factor. the wheels are small enough as it is in the arches without making them smaller lol.

225 do seem to bulge out at the traeds tho.

The difference is less than a new 205 than a worn one, also when indicating 70mph is highly unlikely the 205 tyre is doing exactly 70mph either, the point is the difference is so small it's neither hear nor there.

Also your not making the wheels smaller, it's less than 10mm in diameter let alone radius, I.e also less than a new and used tyre.

hmmm

i think ive just found out that the 225/45/17 on the spider works out exactly the same as my 215/35/19s then :nerd:
