anti brake squeal kit

Featured Replies

hi all

i managed to get my anti brake squeal kit a couple of days back so i got my vw specialist to fit it only to find its not as easy as it looks to fit as i watched him try to fit it he tryed everything only to find that if he was to get it to fit he would have to bend the brake arm to pull the old one out which would cause alot of problems in the long run plus on further inspection it seems all i really needed was the spring mod.

thanks all

you need to pay £15 iirc to be a freedom member mate!

ah kk thanks for letting me know m8 will stick on ebay on a later date

You just undo the 13mm nut, pop off the operation arm and swap the bracket, it's not rocket science.

He did try but when he undone the nut the ARM wasnt going to come off and he wasn't going to force it out as he explained it could break the shaft inside the caliper so if that were to happen it would end up been a a new caliper/s for the sake that it might not even fix it and looking at it the ARM was sticking so that spring mod would be the better fix

it will fit with some wiggling - certainly doesn't need forced

it has been carefully shaped so it can be fit without removing that arm

as a side note the vw sharan springs are the ones to go for - got mine fitted last weekend and have made a big difference

He couldn't get the old one off to even attempted to fit the new ones on plus if I had looked more deeply into these spring mods I would of got that instead would of saved me a lot of money as that was the problem all along

well I'm no mechanic but i manged to wiggle the old ones off and fit the new ones no problem 0 they require lifting and twisting, but can DEFINATELY be fitted without removing the lever arm

btw they are useful - the brake springs will ensure hte handbrake fully releases, but you'll still get the mooo if you don't fit the anti squeel kit

He did try to wiggle it out but the back of the caliper was not allowing it to come out he tryed lifting it etc and just wouldn't come out without removing the ARM which even that wouldn't come off which he tryed to tap it off and it wasnt coming off so he wasn't going to risk breaking anything around that area I was watching what he was doing and it wasn't going to budge without a fight

there is only one way it can come off due to the shape but it will come off

if not your brakes must be different to mine or handbrake not fully off

I'm sure it will as I have seen others have fitted there's just the bloke wasn't going to damage something that might not cure the problem and I do trust the blokes work as he has never robbed us as most garages would of charged us to even temped to fit it he didn't and the handbrake was fully off as I did ask him when he was stuggling to get it off

As STSKODA states they will come off, just a very tight clearance and you need to wiggle the arms. The mechanic probably did not want to force it or break anything. I found that you could wiggle then twist the arms out, also used a screw driver to lever it in the right place at the same time.

Fitting springs later also. As the squeal kit does work as well, but not 100%.

Well what I will do is get that set of springs and try that and see if that will sort it out as its not expensive and something that even he said I can do myself as I have had a thought and will keep that anti squeal kit and if that spring kit works on its own then if say the calipers deside to fail later on in life then while the mechanic is fitting the calipers then he can also do the anti squeal kit aswell as he would have to take the ARM off to do it all
