Ex Xantia Owner

Featured Replies

After having owned a 1.9TD Xantia Estate for 14 years from new I felt that it was time for a change (and it was starting to go rusty). It has been avery good buy with no unexpected expenses and I liked the Gaelic Charm that it had. As I am one of the few people that garage their car at night and my garage was built in the 60's there are many cars that were ruled out for being too wide. I settled on a new 2.0L CR Diesel Octavia Elegance Estate in Petrol Blue (I have never seen petrol that colour Blue!).

One of the joys of owning the Xantia was the support and knowledge of people on the French Car Forum website. I was very pleased to find BritSkoda as the knowledge and support appears to be hewn from the same mold. Although I do not get my Octavia for about 2 weeks I already know about DMF's, DPF's, how to adjust the headlights for foreign travel and many other snippets. The amount of information on this forum is mind boggling. I also, as a mechanical engineer, try to do all of my own maintenance although it will go to the dealer for the first 3 years to keep up the warranty. I would rather buy a specialist tool to do a job then trust it to some of the 'mechanics' that I have seen. I am also considering buying VCDS from day one as I intend keeping the car for at least 10 years and it seems to be a necessity on these modern cars. The Xantia was an old XUD lump that would run on cooking oil with very little computer assistance!

I look forward to my Octavia arriving and to learning more from this forum.

Hi and welcome aboard.

Hello Richard and welcome along

Hi Richard - this is 3rd French convert I've welcomed today!!! Must be something in the water.

welcome to briskoda

Hi Richard and welcome.

I'm an ex Xantia 1.9 TD owner and long time French Car Forum member :)

I rate the Xantia and the Octavia as the two best cars I've owned, hard to choose between them really in some ways. They both have the same "run for ever" feeling about them somehow.

Thanks for all the greetings.

It appears that I have come to the right place.
