very high revs

Featured Replies

Hi

I have been having probs with my car that it wouldent start everything was there Spark, fuel, compression ect (checked by RAC) any way got told on here that it could be temp sensor so i got one and put it in and my car started first time but the only prob is now it runs at 2000 to 2500 rpm is there any way i can lower this.

i also brought a diagnostic cable but cant get it to work it plugs in ok and the light comes on. the software is VAC COM 409.1have i wasted my money on it.

you could try cleaning the throttle body.

you could also try disconnecting the battery for 1 hour, then when you reconnect the battery turn the ignition on but dont start the car wait for around 15-20seconds then start it.You should be able to hear the throttle body reseting itself, kind of whirring noise whilst you have the ignition on,

Hi, my felicia occasionally runs on high idle and to be fair most roads seem to lead back to the throttle body. After cleaning etc an ECU realignment normally follows but with mine I tend to just detach the top connector from the unit as I find it easier than fiddling around with the battery (result is the same).

Does disconnecting the TB and/or the battery DEFINATELY reset the throttle body?

I need to do mine when I get round to buying a gasket, but don't have a laptop to run VCDS on so just pulling the plug would be a lot more preferable than trying to find someone to reset it for me.

On the Octavia there were a lot of old wives tales about how to reset the TB (opening the door, waiting for 30 seconds and dancing three times over a silver spoon on midsummer eve...) but at the end of the day VCDS was the only sure way of resetting.

Try disconnecting the throttle cable to see if it soprts it, they can stick.....the Favorit I had last summer had just that problem and I thought it was all sorts of electrical and TB gremlins!

Got it sorted now thanks for your replies it was the throttle cable needed slacking off someone tightened it up because it was running slow so the trottle was pushed on all the time it now runs at about 850revs when warm.

I also disconnected the battery to see if that worked while i was doing it so that might have helped aswell who knows.

Actually - I know this sounds really odd, but this surging problems that I have experienced on our old GLXi1.6 model - were actually fixed by giving the car a damn good run....a 50-60 mile FAST progressive trip makes the car behave impectably [note I didn't say thrash or be unkind - just progressive]
